Backman keeps ripping my heart up in one chapter and stitching it back in the next.

While I enjoyed my return trip to Beartown, maybe some things are better left in the past. Backman's writing doesn't hold up as well in this sequel as he relies heavily on turns of phrase and fakeouts to create emotional depth where there isn't any. I still returning to familiar characters, but I wonder how much of my enjoyment was to be back with them instead of the actual story being told this time.

So so good! I think this one was a bit higher in my mind compared to Beartown - both really good but something about this book elevated it for me. So heartbreaking but important lessons and a great commentary on human nature. So realistic and definitely events I could see unfolding in real life. I love Benji and Amat. Ana's character arc was interesting but I think it shows how good people can do terrible things sometimes.

Better than the first. Stop what you are doing right now and read both this book and Beartown.
