How can one write a review for a book series so masterfully written?

Before I get into the characters, lets talk plot. This book is a masterclass in writing a book on war, and other authors need to read it if only to really get at the depths of it (I'm looking at you, Fourth Wing and Iron Flame). The way that the battles were only a part of it, and Broadbent went into such detail with the steps taken, and the different aspects of war, including but not limited to the many MANY deaths on both sides, careless lives taken just for vengeance. It made me feel like I was truly a part of the war, and made me want to beg for it to stop.

AND THE CHARACTERS! These characters were so beautifully written, with such depth. Broadbent did an AMAZING job writing complex, in depth main characters that were absolutely not without fault, but characters that took those faults and learned to LIVE with them, not just survive (IYKYK).

Tisaanah and Max are truly some of the best characters I've read, and they made me laugh, cry, want to throw my audiobook (which is hard when its also your phone), and curl up into a ball. Every single moment of them was so full of emotion, especially that epilogue.

And Aefe and Caduan, oh my fae babies. 500 years apart and they still fell in love all over again. The entire book I was yelling at Caduan, and at the same time I understood. He would have done anything for Aefe, and at the end, they did it together, and made my cry during it. Aefe.... Her character growth is beyond anything. From Max and Tisaanah, she learned to love, to feel, to BE herself, and come to terms with her life and those living past it. Special shout out to our baby boy moth, too <3

I will be hiding in a hole of sorrow until I can get over this book, because it was everything I wanted- no, NEEDED, and more
