In which we meet Maeve and cheesy narrative about their relationship. Still trying to figure out the Boudica twist. A little silly.

This is one of those Dirk Pitt novels (more frequent in more recent years) that just went on and on and on. The action set pieces were good, but what came between just dragged.

There is too much padding in this and if you were to cut out 25% you would still have the same story. The padding is there to hide what is lacking in this story. It just doesn't have the depth and complexity to make this a thrilling read. All the elements of a Dirk Pitt story are present, but they only seem to be a shadow of their former self.
Despite the length there are still questions left unanswered. It was just not a good read.

My first Dirk Pitt series novel, and it certainly didn't disappoint. A bit slow in places but it really picks up quickly and the action is great.
I love Maeve!

I'm starting to see a change in Dirk. Where he was once nearly invincible, now he's getting older and the toll of getting beat up, shot and nearly killed is showing. I'm interested to see what direction the next book goes in.

I haven't read Cussler in years! I thought it would be fun to pick one up again and give it a try. I remember being very entertained by his books. This one wasn't as engaging as I remember them to be. I was a little irritated by a few things I read. Maybe I've outgrown him? Still, he does know how to pack the story with action and plenty of impossible feats accomplished by Dirk Pitt and his fellow NUMA members. It keeps you turning the pages.
