4.01 AVERAGE

Very sweet overall, but I have to wonder what was up with Lisa, Reena and Brandon. What normal high school sophomores would hang out with a sixth grader like it was no big deal?

A year with seven grade 6 kids who experience growing up through many school and personal experiences. Every emotion, every problem and every mistake presents readers with an abundance of thought provoking ideas.

Short chapters and abundant connections to literature (Holes, Bridge to Terabithia) make this book a definite conversation starter.

A perfect read aloud
Sequel to because of mr. Terupt

A strong sequel to a book my kids loved!

The rumor is that a lot of the content is inappropriate because the characters are now in sixth grade, but I might use this one as an end of the year (late May, early June) read aloud, after my students have taken health class. They will need that schema!

However, some cringeworthy moments regarding race that I suppose were dealt with, but they still left me feeling uncomfortable. Would need to be thoroughly explained and put into context.

Enjoyable read but I liked the first one better and feel that it contained more lessons and teaching points than the sequel.

This book was so gentle and happy that it was completely uninteresting. Just a lot about how much everybody loves each other. This is also decidedly girlier than the first book which might turn off some young men readers.

#MS suitable for G5/6 story of 7 children in Grade 6 dealing with changes in families and lives and bodies as their teacher mentors them through it.
Didn't like the racist comments about Native Americans, and the religiousity of Danielle - but I guess that's the reality of an american school.
