I've seen a lot of people talking about Rilzy Adams so of course I had to check her out. This was soooo good!!! The chemistry between Navaya and Xander shone through. I could've done without the miscommunication towards the end but the steam more than made up for it. I will be checking out the rest of her catalogue!

trigger warnings: domestic abuse mention, estranged parents mention, sexual content, infidelity mention

This was deeply horny and extremely good. Some of the sexual quips were really really really funny because of how outrageous they were. It's a quick one sitting read full of smut and fun and best friends. Chefs kiss.

Oh and I'm pretty sure it's an all Black cast of characters!

Trigger warnings: cheating (in the past), cheating resulting in pregnancy (in the past), death of a parent (in the past), drug use.

Literally only picked this up because I needed a book by a Caribbean author for a reading challenge and every single recommendation offered was by Rilzy Adams. I'd also seen a bunch of 5 star reviews from people I know and trust buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut this was very definitely not for me.

First of all, it's riddled with typos and grammatical errors. I know Adams is an indie author, but some of them were glaringly obvious. Like the fact that Navaya is drinking mimosas and then blames the vodka for her behaviour. Uh. There's no vodka in a mimosa. Others have talked about how hot the restaurant scene was, but I just kept finding myself cringing on behalf of the poor 18 year old waiter who Xander was constantly getting pissed off at for showing up at inconvenient times. Like...no one in that restaurant consented to being a part of your Bluetooth vibrator sex games, sir. WHAT IF THERE WERE CHILDREN PRESENT??

Anyway. All of this is very much a Me Thing and not a Book Thing, but this was not it for me. Especially once I realised that they literally never have safe sex or a conversation about protection. And, like, I know it's a steamy novella and that's not the point. But girl. He literally has a girlfriend in chapter 1. You know?

Add in the phrase "mentordick", nicknames like "Diabetes" (because "you taste so sweet") and a massive miscommunication plot in the last 25% and I honestly can't say I enjoyed this.

It DOES have a completely Black cast of characters though, so that's a plus!
