To be clear, this isn’t great literature. But man, it’s a fun read. Crouch has found a way to craft compelling mysteries that actually have satisfying answers. So many books create a great atmosphere, but don’t know how to end the story in a way that feels worthy of the story, but this really does. We’ll, sort of - this is the second in a series and it remains to be seen if book 3 sticks the landing, but based on what Crouch has done so far, I suspect he’ll pull it off.

i unintentionally read this book without reading the first one, which i’m sure has skewed my perspective a little bit. learning how this town actually came to be and how evil some characters were was so shocking. i felt like the book accurately reflected how different people would react in this situation, and covered all the details of how deep a conspiracy needs to be to succeed. very solid book, i’m definitely planning on reading the third
