4.5 stars!

An office romance with the added brother's best friend forbidden element plus an age gap?!…YESSSS! I absolutely devoured this book!! Claire Contreras hooked me in from the very first page.

The Trouble with Love is definitely lighter than some of this author's other books. However, I enjoyed that it still dealt with some serious issues like infidelity, addiction and family dynamics. What it lacked (and I say lacked with no negative connotation behind it) in emotion it more than made up for it in banter, sexual tension and character chemistry. My goodness! The connection between Bennett and Morgan was insane. From the beginning, their back and forth was addictive and fun. I genuinely really liked these characters. Morgan is smart and independent and I just loved her determination. And Bennett…sigh. There's a part of me says I shouldn't fall for him because of his questionable actions but I couldn't help it. He's pretty freakin' dreamy.

This book is light-hearted, sexy and fun. I loved it and I highly recommend it!!

What?

I really wanted to like this book. It’s a short romance and I’m always down for those but I’ve never been so frustrated with a book. The pacing was so fast and didn’t flow. The insta love was not believable, like I believe in love at first sight but what was this? And SPOILER I’m ok with a book having darkness but not when there’s no explanation. Why was there a single sentence about how the MC once prostituted herself out to her mother’s client at 14 because said mother was passed out from drugs in the bathroom and then this topic was never discussed further? The main conflict with the mother is that she slept with her daughters boyfriend and is a drug addict, but I think the 14 year old prostitution thing is a bit more pressing! It’s never mentioned further than one truly unsettling sentence. I’m so mad about so many other things but that’s been on my mind the whole time I read the book. This is my only 1 star ever!

This was the second book I read by this author and it was sort of a spin off of the first book I read by her (The Consequence of Falling, which I absolutely loved!

I’m not sure what it was about this book that didn’t bring me to love it like the first one I’d read. The characters were great (loved Morgan & Bennett, esp Bennett

Claire is always a favorite author so chances are I’ll be happy with anything she writes. That was definitely the case here. I loved Bennett and Morgan. Brother’s best friend is always a great troupe and not realizing you had an epic one night stand with him a year ago is a fun twist. I loved seeing Presley and Nate again too. My only criticism is that a few things seemed to wrap up/ get resolved too easily. But like always I’ll be looking forward to more from Claire soon.

This was lovely - but also kind of forgettable. Morgan is starting her dream job at a company she has always wanted to work at - but her boss' son is not only her brother's best friend but her one night stand from a year ago. Bennett is relatively newly divorced and really does not believe in love any more - and he thinks that his best friend's younger sister is seriously off-limits for him. Obviously this is not how it works out. I enjoyed how clever and driven Morgan is and I did like how very nice these two are to each other. I am not the biggest fan of the "super evil ex-wife" trope though and as such could not really warm to the book as a whole.
