Frustrating in the most intriguing way for someone who enjoys medical mysteries, mental health, etc. Some portions could be sped up when reading as a typical story, but as the pieces of the puzzle come together it continues to be so surprising and insane that grips you back in.
This book was recommended to me years ago and I never quite got around to reading it after downloading it to my ereader.
Deciding to finally give it a go I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well written and informative not just as a personal account of this life-changing event, I enjoyed learning more from a non-medical professional point of view on a topic that had been thoroughly researched.
Given my work with families of children who have a diagnosis of Autism, I found the associations that were made between this condition and other conditions including mental health illnesses like Schizophrenia diagnosed by medical professions in other fields hugely informative and make me wonder about some of our learners who meet the criteria but also seem to experience a bit more to their behaviour.
The story of the Doctors involved directly on the identification of the disease was really interesting and inspiring. Along with that, the accounts of how the original article helped other people to get a diagnosis or how they responded to this account when a diagnosis and treatment did not pan out, was a part of the story I found particularly striking and brave to recount.
