This was such a crazy story that I had never heard of. It was so sad and honestly kind of scary, considering I am the same age the author was when she started going mad. I learned a lot from this book, and I enjoyed reading the author's story. I did think it was a little long, and there were a LOT of medical terms. I found myself zoning out sometimes when she started talking about the medical side of things, but if you like autobiographies or medical stories, you would very much enjoy this one. I haven't seen the movie, but I imagine it does a great job of telling this crazy story.

The brain is equal parts terrifying and amazing.

Young woman suddenly starts exhibiting paranoia, schizophrenia-like behaviors. She discusses the experience and eventual diagnosis. The writing felt a little immature but the subject matter was interesting

Fabulous, as expected. I loved the mix of memoir and reporting. The nerd in me loved the neurology lesson and history of psych!

this was recommended to me when I was on my neuro rotation and im so grateful for that rec bc this has been sitting on my bookshelf for about a year & I’m not sure when I otherwise would have gotten to it! this book reads like a well-done documentary that instantly catches your attention. so now I’m eager to watch the movie.

won’t spoil the diagnosis but what a heartbreaking journey these pts go thru and I hope research on it continues to advance

3.5 stars

It was an interesting read and definitely one I could kind of relate to (I too have had to deal with doctors being unable to diagnose me for months only to have it be revealed to be some rare autoimmune disease). I kinda zoned out during the science talk.
