It takes 20% of the book before you even meet the MMC. And then there's a long chunk where there's some great bully/dark stuff going on... but as far as burn goes... MMCs feelings for her switch in the blink of an eye. Like one moment it's loathing, the next it's love. I got whiplash and wish that part of the book was drawn out more. And look, I like an unreliable narrator when it's done right, but the twist at the end was stupid.
SpoilerCallie "I'm not an assassin" Peterson was actually an assassin all along and had the acting skills to fool us but not Mendax apparently. I liked how it tied into her childhood and gift though. Anyway, I debated whether to continue because it felt like Eli/Aurelias had some feelings for Callie and after reading reviews for Book 2 decided not to read.

4.25 ⭐️’s - I’m convinced anyone who rates this as a 1 star is too analytical/critical and doesn’t read for the lore?? The plot was PLOTTING at the end and I was absolutely bamboozled and did not see it coming. I wholeheartedly loved this book. I don’t think it was predictable as some people claim. I was absolutely gagged and having to sit up from lying down. There was a mini plot that sprinkled a little razzle dazzle to have you questioning if that was it, then proceeds to drop a bomb. Shadow daddy has my heart. This is not acotar coded as everyone says. It’s a similar vibe but you can only describe a dark powerful fae prince in so many ways. ANYWAYS - That poor man still puts that woman on a pedestal after being GAS LITTTTT the entire time. We, the readers, were gas lit. I’m here for it though!!! I only wish the plot was explained a TAD more the final chapter because I had to go back to beginning chapters to re read to ensure I wasn’t going crazy by thinking I missed some things
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No

I have no words to express how poorly thought out this book was and the characters are cringy and annoying to read about.

So the main character just randomly falls down this never ending magic hole and miraculously lands on top of this hot dude. And u think welp there obviously gonna fall in love. But then he stabs and kills her… but then gets licked by a magic fox and comes back to life?

Then she gets sexually assaulted by a tree??

Then at the end she says uno reverse and stabs and kills him back.

I enjoyed that this story wasn’t ur typical romantasy where the girl in insecure and the guy comes along and tells her she’s SO PERFECT. no this girl is like I’m that bitch and the guy tells her she’s gross and won’t touch her. It’s pretty entertaining.

Truly just so badly written. If I had to read one more made up swear word because the FMC "didn't like swearing" I was gonna freak out.

Ok… wtf that ending! I’m gonna go crazy waiting for the next book! I love when I can just get lost in a book and escape reality for a little while. Well done Mrs Jeneane!

Amazing book! Had me hooked from start to end, but I got a bit confused by the ending which kind of ruined it a bit but I hope it makes more sense after I’ve read the second book.
