Up to about 80% of this book I was going back and forth on whether this will be a two star or three star read for me. This book was a combination of every fae tale that you have read with an undeveloped love story (maybe, obsession instead?) and a plot twist that I actually did not see coming.

Okay so. The first like 90 or so pages of this book bored me to tears before it finally sped up.
The trials were very reminiscent of Feyre & Rhysand Under the Mountain but just not as good because I wasn’t cheering on Callie like I had cheered on Feyre.
There were parts of this book that felt so redundant & monotonous, like WE GET IT SHES A SCIENTIST. Additionally, I couldn’t tell if the characters were meant to be vague to add suspense & wonder or that they were truly not very hashed out & underdeveloped.
All that to say, I read this in under two days (while on bed rest due to recovering from surgery) so obviously it kept my attention, I read it through & I enjoyed it overall.
Big fan of the the suggested music near the end, interesting mood setter & I would love to see that more.

I really enjoyed the book. I loved it. BUT….then at the very end it seems like the author kind of just really quickly through in a plot twist that made no sense. The entire book she thought and acted one way, like she was just a normal scientist and who had a normal life. There was no inner thoughts that told a different story. She was a just a sweet girl next door. She was accused by the prince of being an assassin but then entire time she explained how she fell into fairy by accident chasing the moths and mushrooms. There was nothing at all to indicate otherwise. Then at the very last bit of the book she is all of a sudden an assassin now and stabs the prince. It wouldn’t have seemed so out of place if there was any inkling at all through the book. Inner dialogue or something but the way it happened it seemed like an after thought. I wasn’t a fan of this ending. It seemed very rushed and like she might have had a different ending but her editors told her to change it to this. Everything else was great. This ending didn’t feel like it belonged.
