I am so happy to be done with this series. It started out as a good read with the first book, but as it went on, I had a lot of conflicting feelings. This last book was a struggle to get through. There was so much happening that it was hard to understand what I was even reading at some points (especially the battle scenes).

I am intrigued by an upcoming new series about Aphrodite and Hephaestus by Scarlett, but I'm not sure if I'll actually read it or not yet. I really wanted to like these books, I didn't hate them, but it was cringy and overly sappy most of the time. Maybe it's just not meant for me lol. However I am happy it got me to read 7 books so far in this year.

Sadly, not nearly as strong as the previous books and really disappointing in some aspects.

I still love Hades and Persephone and they were definitely the highlight in this book for me but it didn't even feel like a Hades and Persephone a book at some point, just...a war book. I also feel like we've lost any aspect of a "modern" retelling – Persephone's media job seems non-existent and all the time is spent in the underworld anyway.

Hermes is reduced to nothing more than comic relief (and bad one at that) and Apollo doesn't appear until like 80% in.

Sooo many people and gods died in this and it all felt so inconsequential and basically noone mourned?? There's horrid things happening and we just don't get any satisfying conclusions.

Definitely my least favourite of the series 🥲 Still love the rest of them though 🫶🏻

Somehow there both too much and not enough going on in this book. I feel like there was enough material to cover two more books had it been given some proper due. Every challenge thrown at our darlings was horrible, the end of the world… until the solution was served up on a silver platter.  There seemed to be no consequences for serious actions, and it always worked out in the best possible way. Ugh.

The series as a whole was lovely - I enjoyed watching the romance develop and deepen between Persephone and Hades. Watching a couple not only decide to be together but also work through differences to stay committed was refreshing and felt real. Unfortunately it seems that that level of story telling was left out of this book in favor of nonstop action that didn’t allow enough time between events to do anything other than the obligatory spicy scene. Speaking of spice - the scenes were definitely steamy but I just didn’t feel the same level of intensity that earlier books had, for all the reasons I’ve already mentioned.

"You would burn this world for me? I will destroy it for you."

Hermes carried this book.

Hermes straightened and popped another piece of popcorn into his mouth. "And I couldn't sleep because I couldn't stop wondering what is she riding if she isn't on his cock?"
"My face, Hermes," Hades said. "She was riding my face."
"Oh my gods," Persephone whispered.
Hermes's shoulders dropped in disappointment. "Well, that's not very creative."
[…] "Might I suggest-" Hermes began.
"No." Hades and Persephone spoke in unison.
"You don't even know what I was going to say!"
"That's the point, Hermes," said Hades.
"I don't even know why we're friends," Hermes huffed.
Sometimes, Hades wasn't sure either.

I didn’t like reading Hades and Persephone’s sexual hallucinations, it seemed overlooked because of the non consent format… Persephone is back to square one; so many people died… And too many pov switches, got really confusing; plot wise.

This book was everything and more I had hoped for the conclusion of the Hades x Persephone series. Scarlett is an amazing storyteller and draws you into the lives of her characters as if you are right there beside them. Her use of traditional Greek mythological characters is enhanced by her ability to pull them into a modern day era that makes them even more relatable.

I love this series and it's the best retell ng. The characters were wrapped up nicely. Minus Ariadne and Dionysus. The medusa story felt like it didnt go anywhere.

I know the author said she is going to come back to this world and explore other characters. I would absolutely love more. I will always love and recommend these books.

4.5/5

I always enjoy the Hades x Persephone books and this one made me excited to read more about Ariadne and Dionysus.

However, this felt rushed. I was over 400 pages in wondering when the war was going to start. I cried over characters that I thought died and then were mentioned in the next chapter like they hadn't been brutally murdered before. I mean, I get that they are gods... but it was just a shock to the system.

I loved seeing Persephone come into her goddesshood and I love the way she endeared herself to all the gods and goddesses and made them love her. Her and Apollo by the end were just so great!

There was a point when I felt like we hadn't heard from Sephy in awhile and when I'd start a new chapter and it wasn't hers I would groan haha

Also, Hermes is the best character ever written.✌🏼
