First Claire Keegan and definitely not the last after this one. Keegan's writing style is so captivating with how it blends the minutiae of daily life with a shadow that hints at things much larger than the characters and the story.

Each of the three stories in So Late In The Day focus on an interaction between a man and a woman.

Even though each is only about 30 pages or so, they have a profound impact when reading them.

I personally didn’t mind much for the second story, but the first and third make you take a second to think about what you just read.

This is the first of Claire Keegan’s works that I have read. I will no doubt be reading more in the future.

Deeply dives into typical life… beautifully crafted sentences. Not a wasted word. favorite phrase: “a gulp of swallows”
