Whoa! I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did! Admittedly, the first book wasn't exactly my favorite, but I devoured it in under 12 hours, so I was expecting a similar feel from this book. However, although it literally took me forever to read this book, I was sooo invested in the characters and the plot by the end that it didn't matter. Also, Helene, Elias, and Laia are like my new favorite characters ever.

This book was incredible. The plot hooked me from page 1 and did not let up throughout the entire story. The plot twists had me shook and the character development throughout was superb. Between Ember in the Ashes and now A Torch Against the Night, Sabaa Tahir will forever be an insta buy author for me.
Graphic: Death, Violence, and Torture
Moderate: Slavery, Grief, and Child abuse
Minor: Rape and Sexual content

This book is amazing!
I love not just the perfectly paced plot, but also the amazingly fleshed out characters. I can see what motivates them and I understand, even if i don’t necessarily necessarily agree with, the choices they make.
The characters in this book felt like real people. I love Laia, Elias, Helene, Izzy, and Tas. That made this book so much harder to read when characters died.
Some of the reveals were to be expected but the way Sabaa Tahir writes makes this book so many times better.
Will definitely be continuing the series, and I’m really excited to see what else Tahir writes in the future!

This series just gets better with every installment. No second book syndrome here. I loved having a new POV and it really made the character lodge themselves deeper into my heart. Sabaa’s writing is spectacular and will have you so engrossed you will be lost for hours or until you finish. I don’t wanna dive too deep into the plot because of spoilers, but this book really up’d the anti. I’m foaming at the mouth for book three so I will have to start it soon.
