I'm slowly catching up with the backlog of book reviews from the last few months, and this one was read back in March with my friend, Brittany from @Brittany Loves Reading on booktube. Every other month, we host Ice Planet Barbarian reading sprints on a Saturday for 8 hours. As of this review, we are now on book 7, to be read in July 2023!

Having read the first six books in this series so far, this one is still my favorite! I love that it loosely mirrors Beauty & the Beast, featuring a hate-to-love romance. The dynamic between Liz and Raahosh was a lot of fun because, even though she is a chatterbox and he's the grumpy silent type, they are both incredibly stubborn and that made their interactions so funny at times. I still like that Ruby Dixon doesn't take this series too seriously, allowing for humor between intense moments of survival or conflict. It's interesting to think back on this book remembering how little we knew about the planet, its environment, and how finding one's true "mate" works. The series definitely builds on itself and becomes more and more complex!

I'm not shocked that I circled back to this series so fast. In the second book, we are focused on Liz and Raahosh, and it's a forced proximity romance since he kidnaps her right after the women get infected and take her to his hidden cave. This book still has some hilarious moments between the two because Raahosh acts like he can't understand Liz during the first third of the book, but that doesn't stop her from talking. He says she would talk to a wall because she never stops talking. But when the two finally start talking, we learn that the only thing Liz really wants is the ability to decide her own choices, and I really love that. It's so relatable; she even explains that nothing has been her choice since she was kidnapped from Earth and that all she wants is to make her own decisions. I read these books for laughs because this one was just as funny as the first one. In addition, this book had just as many steamy moments as in the first. I feel like the books will eventually start feeling repetitive. However, I'm still curious about the rest of the books in this series. The next one follows Rina, and she doesn't match with anyone, but she kind of has a crush on an alien. I'm curious how that one will play out because so far, our first two couples resonated with their aliens and then got pregnant super fast. So I'm curious if she will end up with him, if she will resonate with him, and if they don't, will they still get pregnant?

Reads like a fanfiction but is fun. Sometimes the book seems repetitive. Not much scenery change.

MILD SPOILER

I liked it. Was it better than the first book? No I don't think so. Was it worth reading? Definitely. I didn't like Liz so much in the beginning. I viewed her as pretty self-centered but it got better towards the middle of the book. I liked raahosh from the beginning. Yeah he did some fucked up stuff but ig life as a hunter is different.

Now I was surprised to Form a dislike for Georgie. She was just not listening, no one was. Personally if I was Liz I wouldn't have taken the punishment they got. Being forced to hunt for a tribe that separated you from your loved one, hell nah.
I probably would have raised my middlefinger and said fuck yall. Feed yourself.

ANYWAY
Breeding kink ✔️
Possessive mmc ✔️
Strong fmc ✔️
For the smut I would give it like a 3,8/5 🌶 or a generous 4. Depends on your personal taste. This book does not immediately jump into spice. But it has a good and interesting way of building up I believe.
