Our boy Skip knows how to write the hell out of a true crime story. He brings the victims, suspects, detectives, and the city to life, and thoroughly details every possible lead and theory, as well as the social and political repercussions of these terrible murders and the panic that ensued. If you haven’t yet, you should pick up this book (and also read everything he’s ever written for Texas Monthly).

Thought this was historical fiction and that I would follow a character or two when I started reading. Totally not that, this is the first history book I have ever read and I really enjoyed it. The author is totally enamored by the Midnight Assassin and he told the story very well.
