1st Reread: When I went in expecting garbage, I was pleasantly surprised.  When I went in with higher expectations, I got garbage.  What gives?
In all seriousness though, most of this book was cringey and a bit of a drag on the second readthrough.  The ending was still pretty good though.  (Also, I definitely like Jacob's character in this book and early on in New Moon much more than him later on in the series.)

Original Review (from 2022):
I finished this book back in February when we had a bad snowstorm in our area (my workplace was closed, so I got a few long afternoons to read). As a result, I think it's always going to feel like a winter read to me. 🤣 Never read it during the original craze, and reading it inspired my dabbling in other popular YA series I've missed out on over the years (such as the Lunar Chronicles).
I enjoyed Twilight more than I like to admit, and was therefore excited to read New Moon.  4 Stars! ****

I am so glad that I read this book at my current age, not around the time that it came out. I had quite the fun while reading, will read it again but in Spanish.

this was a reread for me and gotta say that it's overrated... Bella is nearly intolerable and her relationship with Edward gets super dramatic and cheesy about halfway though the book.
Meyer has a beautiful writing still, it just didn't really fit for me with the whole 'teen-angst' theme

You know what, it held up better than I thought it was going to. Edward is much more toxic than I remember as a teenager, but I really enjoyed the reread.

I think this is my longest review to date.
This is my Mom's all-time favorite series. I grew up on the movies before I could read the books for myself. Side note: we used to listen to the soundtrack to clean on Saturdays, repeated for hours. She is obsessed. (I love her for it)
20 years later and here I am giving her favorite book 5 stars. I loved every second of this book.
As a Christian, I don't read smut. *spoiler sentence* I really appreciate this series commitment to clean romance until the last book (I will be skipping wierd parts).
That said, one of my favorite all time tropes is vampires (Admittedly, I think its because of growing up on the Twilight movies).
Clean romance, Fluff, found family, vampires, superpowers
Yes, the book was better❤️
Ps. The audiobook narrator for Twilight is amazing! She put her all into it, especially all the sweet and action-packed parts~
Yes, I am immediately starting Midnight Sun! (Ik its the retelling not the sequel ssh😉🎉)

October's read for book group - you reap (Twilight) what you sow (joke suggestions to the random book selector). Honestly, I was expecting this to be a lot worse than it was? The plot is silly - what would you expect from a vampire romance - and the pacing is definitely off, with 90% of the plot crammed into the last 10% of the book. The writing may not be anything special, but it's not dire, other than the ellipses on every other page. The worldbuilding is internally consistent even if the whole premise is a bit ridiculous and, having read the whole series several times as a tween, it was fun to return to the characters. Particularly, I didn't buy the argument that Bella is a terrible character when I was 12 and I don't buy it now. Unfortunately, a lot of teenage girls are Like That!

Obviously this is not groundbreaking, serious literature, but I had fun revisiting it and I didn't want to remove my eyes by the end, so I'm counting that as a win.
