A childhood favorite that i read aloud to my preschooler! So much adventure and fun in this story. Stuart talked a lot more about death and dying than I remember. The book ends rather abruptly, which was a bit confusing. However, we still really enjoyed it!

This was one of the strangest books I have ever read. A boy born to a human woman who is 2 ounces and looks like a mouse is odd. He is three years old but goes on a journey to find a bird that he, and presumably his family can talk to, in a small gasoline powered car. He loves this bird, it is the most beautiful creature he has ever seen. Is he interested in the bird romantically? Seems to be, but it is never really spelled out, and then he gets side tracked by another small human looking girl. And then to top it all off there is no ending. Nothing is resolved. The writing is very strange as well as the story. On the one hand White tries to write as if Stuart lives in our world, for example Stuart is too small to carry coins so his father makes him some out of foil. But then Stuart uses the fake money to convince people to do things they didn't want to do. With fake foil money? The entire thing is very strange and since it was written in the 50s super sexist on top of everything else.
