Famous kids book and first time read for me, reading out loud to my 6 year old. What an odd book! Spoilers: I know it’s a kid’s book, but so much was weird and made no sense. Sure, let a mouse who isn’t a teacher teach at a school. He left his home without telling his family where he was going after already having a few occasions of them not knowing where he was and them royally freaking out about it. The whole part with Harriet Ames was so random and didn’t amount to anything, and the story ended so abruptly that I had to check if there was a sequel. Nothing felt resolved. I’ve never seen the movie either, but surely this is a case where the book isn’t better.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book a lot more than the film which didn't really do the book justice. Williams' drawing, like Charlotte's Web complemented the text nicely and were skilfully drawn. I felt like the ending was a cliff-hanger and would have loved to read more about Stuart's adventures. Did he find Margalo in the end? Stuart disappointed me at the end of the book. He comes off as someone who is resilient, adventurous and tries to make the best of bad situations; and the last scene makes Stuart look bratty and miserable.
How is this a classic?? What a weird little book. Most of it didn’t flow at all. It was more like several short stories. And there was no ending! I seriously looked it up yo make sure part of my book wasn’t missing!
It just got finished... Guess that's what you get from a kiddie book. Adventures are fun though.
The story of "Stuart Little" is charming and whimsical, with a tiny mouse protagonist embarking on all sorts of adventures in a big world.
I loved the imaginative storyline and the unique perspective of the world from a small mouse's point of view. The characters are well-developed and memorable, especially Stuart himself, who is brave, kind, and resourceful. The author's writing style is simple yet engaging, and the book is filled with heartwarming moments.
However, there were a few things that bothered me about the book. For one, I found the pacing to be a bit uneven at times, with certain scenes feeling rushed or underdeveloped, which made it hard to stay engaged with the story. Also, some of the adventures felt a bit repetitive, and I found myself wishing for a bit more action or excitement. Additionally, there were some elements of the story that felt a bit unrealistic or even nonsensical at times.
Despite these flaws, I think "Stuart Little" is still a great book for kids to read. It has a positive message about bravery and perseverance, and the world-building is truly impressive.
Taking everything into account, I would recommend this book with some reservations, as it's definitely not perfect but still worth a read. Just don't expect too much in terms of high-stakes action or logical consistency!

When I read this book to my littles a few years ago, I could not get past how beautifully the words read. Some books are work trying to read them out loud, but this just flowed. Then I realized: White was an editor - he was paid to play with words. I really don't dig books with animals as the main character, but this book is an exception. Just lovely and happy and comforting.
