I started reading this book because I really wanted to read childrens books. Unfortunately I didn't like this book as much as I liked Charlotte's Web by the same author. This book started out really good, but in the last few chapters I kinda lost the whole point of this book. The chapters became more and more strange, and the book ended without really telling me the end of the story. Did Stuart find Margalo? Did he find his luck? And why the hell did he freak out that much just because his canoe was broken down?
I don't get it, and that's why this book only gets 3 stars, instead of the 4 I would have normally given it. Otherwise the book was actually great. It had really touching scenes and was very involving in the first few chapters. Stuart was growing up and finding his place in life.
Even though I didn't especially like this book I'm still going to read the last book of E.B. White that I own - The Trumpet of the Swan.

I never read this as a child and it was strange to read as an adult. I enjoyed Stuart very much and loved following his adventures but the ending was quite abrupt. It left many things unresolved and seemed like Mr. White just didn't feel like writing this book anymore. I think the next time I rescue a pet I'll name it Margalo.
Grandma read this to the girls during her visit.
Honestly, not great. The first half was fine but the last few chapters were weird! I was familiar with the general idea of the book from maybe being read it as a kid and from the movie but I don’t think we’ll be revisiting this one.

My kids and I read Stuart Little together. They were surprised at the rather abrupt ending. Eventually, they came to think it was a good ending, because it ended with Stuart taking just the right road. I love how it left them with a head full of ideas about what might happen next.
