Minh thought this instalment was rubbish, but I didn't mind it so much.^^^^Not that much character development, but I see how or why this book was needed. Hopefully next book it'll be back on track! though seeing the way how it ended, it should be.
So mad at this book, honestly! Everything after book 1 I’ve been determinedly unimpressed with, and then Novik goes and drops that ending. I cried! I was teary for a good hour! How dare!!!!!!
Felt very different from the other books, I suppose in a 9 book series it's going to go in some different directions. I will admit this is my least favorite in the series so far - I was a bit confused about how they figured out a few things and maybe I just drifted on a few sections and didn't feel the action was as good. The story is still very interesting and the last 40 pages or so really threw me for a loop, a great spin and I'm dying to read book 5 because of it.

This one picks back up! The exploration still smacks of colonialism, but the reasoning and characters introduced is… not terrible. It certainly felt more well rounded than the previous two’s introduction of China and Turkey, respectively.
Titel: Elefenbensriket bok 4(Enpire of Ivory)
Författare: Naomi Novik
Serie: Temeraire series
Utgångs år:2009
Antal sidor: 380

As I have made my way into and through this series of books I have had a harder time maintaining my enthusiasm. I still love the language, the two main characters, Dragon and Captain and I have mostly enjoyed the politics and the morality lessons inside the story. But the plots are slow in this and the preceding book in the series and I feel like I am having the lessons hammered into me. If I had not understood before, now I know about the evils of slavery. And yes, dragons are slaves in a fashion here too. I don't mean to make fun of the message, there are times when it is elegantly done and Temeraire and Lawrence are never cartoons of themselves, they are real and they redeem the books. If you accept the pacing I believe a reader can enjoy these books easily. I would have enjoyed more scenes in england with jane and the lords of the admiralty. The women are wonderful and deserve more of a role in the books. The other thing that is beginning to bother me is that the dragons are still like children, I want them to mature a little faster. The moral dilemma at the end of this book is well done and inevitable and the characters response to it is excellent. as you can see I am ambivalent, but I am glad I read it and I have bought and am part way through the next one.
A little light on dragon fights or great battles between the French and British. This book is more a journey to Africa to find a cure for the dragon flu affecting the British dragons to devastating effect. Once the cure has been discovered we get a brief look at the African tribes and their dragon life, before a return to Britain, and a brief hello to the French at the end, before setting up the next book in the series.

I loved this one! The magic is finally starting to come back! That ending! Can’t wait to start the next one!
7.71 CAWPILE score
Hhhhhhh I can’t believe it ended like that!! This was the most stressful of the books in the series so far, and for good reason!! Temeraire is becoming so rebellious and I’m here for it, but I feel for Laurence, he needs a break.
