When I first started reading this book I was so confused. It wasn’t til I got a few chapters in that things cleared up. Somewhat. The plot felt slow and flat. The main character didn’t seem like she was a teenager. The mystery was alright but it wasn’t enough to save the rest of the plot.

I enjoyed this book but the ending felt a little rushed, didn’t it?

DNF at 50%.

This book was too weird and really cheesily written. I felt like it needed to take place in a stuffy boarding school in England but it was smack in the middle of Texas, of all places.

Lucy and Edith had such a fun and chaotic dynamic. Edith is so eccentric and funny. Lucy is definitely one of those girls who needs to check their privilege, but she was still a fun and likeable character. I was wondering why the title of the book is what it is, especially since Lucy Clark apologized at the start of the book, but at the end ... YOU TELL EM!

I was so on board for a geriatric not-yet-murder mystery. I haven’t read The Thursday Murder Club yet but it felt like that and now I put it on hold. The ensemble of characters at varying ages was so refreshing as opposed to having a mostly teenage cast.

Perfect mystery for people who don't like ickiness. Instead of solving a murder, Lucy and her friends are trying to PREVENT a murder, which makes it definitely on the cozy side of things. For me, the most compelling characters were the adult characters -- Mimsy and Edith are delightful, and I do really like teen stories where teens really connect with adults in an interesting way. I didn't guess the solution, so it kept me guessing! Not perfect or mind-blowing, but a good non-gruesome character-based mystery for teens who like those.

Also great for people who like gardening and flowers.

I have no words. From the moment I started this book, I fell in love with Lucy Clark and Edith Fox. I was captivated by the mystery surrounding Edith and related to Lucy in more ways than I thought. I loved this book and the characters so much. I hope that others decide to read this book because it was such an interesting and wonderfully beautiful read.
