Russ may be a super hot college hockey player, but when he meets Aurora he’s a bundle of nerves and decides to fake the confidence he wishes he had. After a one night stand, he is thinking he will never see the gorgeous blonde again. So when she walks into the summer camp he is working at this summer, he knows it’s about to get interesting. I love the cast of characters in this series and the new ones we met in this book just make the whole crew even better!!

This book was a welcome palate cleanser after heavier literary fiction and deep diving fantasy series. After Ice Breakers I thought I would dislike this book, as it's the same world and involves the same group of characters. But what the first book had in charm, this one keeps, while also dropping some of the original more off-putting elements. The contrived tension to add conflict to the story was refreshingly not just constant horrible communication (although there was some) that dragged (which is honestly always the worst). Occasionally the tension or dialogue felt clunky, but nothing a fluffy reader can't get past. There could be a trigger warning for family strife, messy divorces and gambling addiction, but the blasé nature of the first book's approach to disordered eating and abuse is not present here. Characters recognize bad stuff themselves rather than being babied by others. Characters also remain true to their characterization, even in the epilogue, which feels like a huge improvement. Finally, when it comes to the spice spicing,  this book is for the praise girlies (bless).

I loved everything about this book! At first when I began reading, I didn’t realize that it takes place in the same world as Icebreaker, and was pleasantly surprised when I began reading familiar names and scenes full of the characters I had already come to love from reading that story. Differently from Icebreaker, Wildfire’s summer camp plot left me yearning for the days of summer, swimming, bonfires, and a love story like Aurora and Russ. While I enjoyed Anastasia and Nate’s story from Icebreaker, something about this book left me feeling differently. There wasn’t a time when I felt like the spice and physical connection between the main characters was overshadowing their actual romance. The balance between the small and subtle contributions to their falling in love and their physical connection to once another was balanced beautifully. I would have given 5 stars - but I had to take off something for the cringeworthy term of endearment “sweetheart.” I don’t know what it was, but each time I read that I had to cringe - I just felt like using that term didn’t fit the characters well. Other than that, perfect story, writing, characters, and book overall!

Listened on Audible.
Wildfire is the 2nd book in the Maple Hill series by Hannah Grace. Following Russ Callaghan and Aurora Roberts after a passionate one night stand after a party the 2 meet again as camp counsellors.

I enjoyed the slight cross over of character from Icebreaker along with new characters. Less smut compared to Icebreaker. I enjoyed this book less but overall still a good book.
