I went into this book wanting something from it, but I got something entirely different. But stay with me.

Russ and Rory really worked well together. The bonding over daddy issues is for real, and those of us that have them too could relate.

There were still a lot of moments of connection to the team and friends and the interconnected pieces we want to see, but I don’t know how I feel about this being a summer camp setting nowhere near Maple Hills when I thought I was getting a series about hockey.

Once I realized it was a very different vibe, I reset my expectations and honestly had a great time with it. I love that Rory over shares and fills the silence when she’s nervous…I do that. I love that she needs validation and praise…I need that. Her actions have mirrored mine through my years around her age and watching a “find myself” story from the outside felt a little bit like healing my inner 20 year old and letting them know their experience was perfect for them.

Russ is just a semi-shy sweetheart who I loved in the first book and am happy to see him get what he deserves in life.

And that epilogue was lovely. Every book girls dream. ❤️

So sweet and cozy! Less heavy than Icebreaker, but still handles sensitive topics with care. A perfect continuation of the Maple Hills pack, with the happy ending you expect and the characters deserve. Russ and Rory's individual and combined journeys are both approachable and relatable, with nothing getting so far between them you start to fear.

I ended up reading Wildfire before Icebreaker (because Libby) and I can already tell that I'm not going to like Icebreaker as much as this one!

Since I haven't seen this book all over BookTok and Bookstagram, I'm assuming it's not as popular as "Icebreaker."

Based on my experience with "Icebreaker," I went into this book with low expectations. I thought it was alright. The characters were flat, and I struggled to connect with either Aurora or Russ. I just found that I didn't really care about them or what they were going through. The plot was fine. I think the pacing was a little slow as I got bored with this book at times. The writing style was okay.

Reading this book felt like reading people chronically on twitter interacting in real life.
The conversations seemed too unrealistic between the couple, especially during "deep", "emotional" or "romantic" moments. I wish Honey Acres as a setting was explored more alongside the whole camp atmosphere.
The side characters also deserved more moments to shine, as I really loved Xanders banter with the other characters.
Some moments in the book gave me whiplash just from how quickly the scenes and conversation topics were changing. Some moments and conversations also felt like they finished too abruptly before moving on.
TDLR: Great setting, funny side characters, unrealistic mmc and fmc.

I really enjoyed this book especially the wholesome moments between the two main characters and the natural progression in their relationship.

Personally at times the smut got a bit too much and distracted from the character development so I did end up skimming a few of those chapters but still enjoyed the story overall
