As someone that didn’t understand the hype that icebreaker got on the Tik Tok, I was a bit hesitant to pick up book too. Then I found out this would be a summer romance while they were camp counselors, I had to check this out (thank you to the skip the line copy on Libby).

This book was a great mixture of spice and coming of age. Honestly the parts where Rory and Russ go through and process their family trauma was almost cathartic. Maybe because this was traditionally published, balance of spice and story were much more under control.

Also the set up to my baby Henry’s story in the next book was just fantastic. Fun and insightful read for the end of summer. Well Done!

Another wholesome sweet-and-spicy Maple Hills book. Cheesy epilogue.

I wish there'd been more interaction with previous characters but the setting made that difficult.

This honestly felt the same as Icebreaker with minor changes to the plot and characters. I didn't find it interesting or captivating in anyway. The spice is good but it's not anything more special than other books that I could actually finish.

Ultimately, this was too much "telling" versus showing, and I could only take so much. Maybe I'll pick it back up one day to see their HEA, but I wasn't invested in either character enough to see it through right now.

I do want to say that I did enjoy both narrators (Teddy Hamilton & Lauren Sweet) & I have listened to them before, so it wasn't them. It was the writing & the characters that fell flat for me.
