βI loved the camp setting. This is a perfect book to read in the summer. I liked how the dynamics were different from that in Icebreaker because the setting was different, however I did miss the Hockey House and all that went on there, and the parts we saw with the whole team back at Maple Hills at the start and end of the book were my favourite parts out of the book.

I don't normally read contemporary romance, and I understand that I'm not in the target audience.
Taken as a romance novel, I didn't love Wildfire: in particular, the female lead didn't strongly appeal to me, and I felt her life was underdeveloped compared to her male counterpart. I did like Russ, and many of the side characters were funny or endearing, though not all. The plot of the novel is hard to read without getting off, and I mean that derogatorily: there is an element of emotional gratification that is lacking, at least for me. Jerking off to the many sex scenes likely alleviates this feeling of emptiness.
As a book, there are a couple of really weird things about Wildfire. The setting of the novel, a college frat-house full of buff hockey players, rang very hollow. It took me many chapters to figure out why, but I think it's because there are no ugly people in the novel. Every girl is gorgeous, every guy is at least 6'2 and shredded. Characters older than college age are super hot or were previously super hot. Aside from a single designated antagonist, every person in the novel is meticulously respectful of women; the heavy emphasis on consent and respect in sexual situations is not inherently wrong, but it gives everything a pinky sheen of unreality, a disconnect from the real world. So all 12 of these buff White student athletes all want a loving, monogamous relationship with a woman they respect? None of them are evil? And they're all really serious about using condoms? That's not to say that the author is normal about women, either. Wildfire calls attention to the incredible physical advantages that buff men enjoy over women, constantly reminding us of the helplessness of female characters in pursuits of the body.
There are too many characters. Specifically, there are characters who have an almost Marvel quality to them: this guy is just a boring hockey bro here, but he stars in the next romantic novel by Hannah Grace! The commercialism of the book leaves a plastic-y aftertaste.
Something about the escapism of Wildfire scared me just a tiny bit. It portrays a perfect world, and that world is one paved flat and stripped of ugliness and ugly people, racism and race, any body that isn't taut with muscle: if it was the real world, I wouldn't exist.
