Poor Beezus, the little mother, who is saddled with her annoying sister for her debut book in a role as a nag, then goes on to lose the series focus to everyone’s favorite precocious Quimby

It had been 15+ years since I'd read this, and it was just as wonderful as I remembered. I thought the audiobook was well-read, too!

I don't recall Ramona being sent to her room so much, but I still loved it. I forgot that even Henry & Ribsy made an appearance in the first book... and the illustrations. Ahh, memories.

I was a child much more like Beezus than Ramona, but the later books in this series that focus more heavily on Ramona are my favorites. That being said, I do love this book.

Given that this book was first published back in 1955 I would expect it to feel more dated. Sure, there are some references that no longer feel relevant but it’s a timeless story. I enjoyed reading it to my 5 year old, she liked hearing about Ramona’s antics quite a bit. I thought I didn’t remember this book from my childhood but recalled the chapter about painting imaginary animals very well when I was reading it. I was also happy to read online that Beverly Cleary is still alive and 104 years old- wow!

The chapter where Ramona makes her own bunny ears is the best. My daughter decided she wanted to make a set as well.
