I need more of my friends to have children so I can buy all the cool kids books I find for them, otherwise I'm gonna have to start impregnating people myself. Whilst this book is just slightly too American, I love the artwork here, I love the message, and I love the humour. It didn't occur to me that there would be controversy around this book. Your kids are smarter than you are, educate them don't shelter them. Buy this book.

In this world of blogs, wi-fi, texting, Kindles, e-books, etc, etc, we sometimes forget the geography of a real book has lasted hundreds of years, and when you take a hammer to a book, unlike a kindle or computer, it won't break.

Lane Smith reminds us of the importance of books' simplicity in this short, clever book about, well, a book.

I guarantee some people will be horrified by the last line of this book, as it can be misconstrued as cursing, but you've gotta give Smith props for his cleverness and his ability to make you laugh out loud.

I honestly think that the genre of this book should be titled: "Children's picture book written for adults."

Then again, there are a lot of kids in this world right now who need to hear the message of this book too.

It's not cool to be anti-technology, Lane. There is room in the world for screens and paper. It's also not cool to have your hero call his rival a "jackass" in a book that's supposedly for children. I have a feeling this book was actually written for people just like me (adults who love books hard), and yet it rubbed me the wrong way. My favorite part was the passage from [b:Treasure Island|295|Treasure Island|Robert Louis Stevenson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1156894951s/295.jpg|3077988].

This is another revisiting of a book I know I've read before but didn't rate. I like the concept a lot--it's not a computer, it's a book! The story shows how many things a book can't do but then it also shows how mesmerizing the experience can be for the reader. Very funny, but not something I would read all the time.

For: readers looking for a title with commentary on books vs. computers.

Possible red flags: instance of calling the donkey a "jackass" on the last page may offend some readers.
