This book was whooping my ass. Some relatively heavy content so had to put it down.

Emotional neglect is not a peer scientific reviewed thing Webb in the context she has written about validated. I liked how it allows one to acknowledge that parents make mistakes and it could have led to harm to the intended harm done by parents. Thought the way of emotional neglect was a little bit broad. When it comes to it, it comes to being with your feelings and taking them on versus ignoring them or dismissing them and letting others in.
It was an interesting concept and I hope there will be more research in Webb's way to see if there is a scientific backing to her hypothesis.

Interesting enough. Not earth shattering. Explained much of my childhood and why I have a handful of descriptors for emotions. left me feeling as though I did a good job as a mother.

I think this book fulfils its purpose of bringing attention to childhood neglect (more specifically on the emotional aspects). That gets unknowingly passed down onto us by our parents, and in turn projected onto the people around us in the form of insecurities, attachment styles, etc. I personally gained a lot of insight on her breakdown of the different types of parental dynamics, and also the importance of emotional attunement.
There were quite a bit of mention of the many questionnaires/self quizzes on Dr Jonice Webbs’ website which she mentioned could help you better understand yourself in those regards, but I personally haven’t tried it myself to see if they are truly useful.
Overall if you are intending to pick this book up as a starter to understanding where your emotions/feelings stem from, I would definitely recommend it to you.
