A great end to what I hope will turn into a fantasy staple. Good balance of engaging plot and lovable characters/romances. There were unexpected turns, but everything fit together so well by the end. I would definitely recommend the series

The first 90% of this book I fully anticipated this being a 5 star read, however the ending left a lot to be desired.
You know how when you’re cleaning & almost done so you just start putting random stuff in drawers to be done with it? That’s how the end felt.
The build up was amazing. I have been obsessed with this series from the start.
I loved getting to know the side characters throughout the book but
wish I could have had a more detailed conclusion for them rather than just one or two sentences from Lore updating how their lives went. The climax felt very anticlimactic after a three book intense build up.

SPOILER BELOW:
I also feel like Lore choosing to stay alone on the island for 500 years kind of ruined the sacrifice Gabe & Bastian made to give her a life. I understand the waiting for them, but they would have wanted her to still be surrounded by their friends & loved ones, at least for the first life time. I also wish we could have seen more with all three of them together instead of the post death few sentence reunion.

I added this book to my To-read pile in March 2023 after reading book one because I knew that I wanted to complete this trilogy and get to the conclusion of this intricate romantasy story.
Over the hundreds of pages I have read, I have grown so attached to our trio Lore, Bastian and Gabe but particularly Lore as I think she is just such a wonderfully complicated and loveable FMC. I still love the love triangle which has morphed and changed across the trilogy.
I think overall this was a good conclusion and final book, but my attention and love for this series has diminished over the long periods between each book and I think my enjoyment would be higher if I had read them closer to one another. There isn't much I can say without spoiling the plots, but in general I love way religion and politics are explored in this world and this built to a great crescendo which was a thrill to read.

Wow, this was a letdown. Not a "went up in flames" kind, but my feelings are definitely a little bit hurt over how this series ended.

I expected the lore (no pun intended) to firm up a bit once we were approaching the conclusion, but really, all we got was a new character in The Fount that raised even more questions that didn't end up being answered. I still don't fully understand why the powers work the way that they do, nor do I have a decent overview of the overall magic structure.

Side note: What happened to Horse?

I also craved more character development from Gabe throughout the entire series that wasn't accomplished at any point. By the end, Gabe was really a "nothing" character - so much wasted potential 😭

Genuinely, my reason for the low rating had everything to do with the ending: How dare this series be like 1,200 pages of lead-up and then punish the readers at the end by giving them NOTHING?!?
Lore literally had to watch the people she loves die and then wait hundreds of years alone to get a chance at having Bastian & Gabe back so they could actually all be together.
I finished this book almost a month ago now and it still feels like a huge slap in the face, both to the readers and to the integrity of the story itself.

Edit: Updated rating from 3.5>4 only because I spent the last 60 pages sobbing. That's worth something.

This book was far better than the second. The limits of the magic seem to be endless, as are the boundaries of the character development. I felt that this book was trying very hard to fix issues from the previous one, and lost its identity as a result. The last third of the plot was fairly interesting, but ultimately the ending was quite disappointing.
