enjoyed the story very much. a lot of editing issues but good book regardless.
Oh my gosh! That was hot. It was angst and sweet at the same time.
Izzy deserves a happy ending, after all that she's been through. I would have love to kick Axel's ass from time to time but you'll see he means well.
I'm sure you'll love the banters and the execution of this book. I can't wait to read the next one.

So yeah. what to say that won't have me hunted down and killed......
This book was just a little bit "Too".
Izzie was Too much of a crier.
Don't get me wrong, I know she has been through a lot of shit in her life, but still. COME.ON!!! I don't know how she didn't end up in the hospital more due to dehydration!!!
Axel was Too alpha and aggressive.
I know we all love an alpha male but he may have well just grunted through the whole thing! Didn't stop me from rooting for him though!
All the guys were Too quick to be all huggie & protective of Izzie.
They don't even know her. WTF.
It was Too repetitive.
I felt like I was been retold the story of what happened to Izzy over & over & OVER again! There was a whole chapter of Izzy lying on a bed remembering stuff we had just been told!!!!!! Frustrating.
There was WAY Too much angst.
And I rolled my eyes way Too many times.
And having said all that I just couldn't put the damn thing down!
There was a good story here underneath all the "Too".
And I will probably continue on, especially for Maddox & Beck's stories.

A decent amount of smut. Enjoyed the story and the characters.
Graphic: Domestic abuse
Moderate: Miscarriage
3.25⭐️
TW: Spousal abuse, mental abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence, miscarriage, depression, mentions of PTSD.
Dee and Greg are walking Green Flags.
Met Axel for the first time at 20%. My initial thoughts: Bro is a big ol’ bitch. He called Isabel a bitch like 3 times in the first chapter of his. Judged her without even knowing whats going on in her life or her reason for leaving all those years ago.
I’m at 32%, Axel is still acting like a dick and I’m pissed at Greg cause wtf bro! I was rooting for you! You came from the right place but did the wrong thing. At 58% I forgive Greg and Maddox is my new favorite ❤️❤️
70% Finally!!! Some fucking communication.
Finished. I laughed, I cried. Excellent ending. Also, I forgive Axel. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

I enjoy second chance books, and this was a good one. It was satisfying to see Axel and Izzy regain everything they had lost.
It was frustrating, though, that Izzy wouldn’t talk to Axel and get everything worked out. And that was a bit of a plot cop-out for the author. The writing was also melodramatic at times.
The book needed a better editor. There are a lot of spell-checker type errors (medal for metal), mixed verb tenses, typos, etc. The mistakes and the sheer number of them were distracting.
In spite of all that, I’m still going to read the next book. :-)

I read this book years ago but then finally listened to it. Still to this day I love Alex and Izzy. I've got them on my bookshelf for safekeeping. Could the performance by the narrators been better? Sure, but doesn't everyone have one they like more than others, This story has all the feels. You will get upset, you may cry. It will get hot as sin as well.
This book has the plot of a romance novel but with character's out of a YA novel, not for me. I need heroines who I can relate with and respect.
What a fun read! I love Axel in all his alpha manliness! And I can't wait to read about his whole marine corps crew in the next books!
One thing I really liked about this book is how much cursing there is. I don't know why, but it seemed to really work and make it more real. Between Isabelle and the guys, every other words was f--k, s--t, bitch, you name it. It just felt like, finally, we're not all school marms here!
Plus you could really feel the love that axel and isabelle held for each other both before and now. Passionate and all encompassing, and they make it through even though fate has been messing with them for years.

I really wanted to like this book, especially because it was tackling an important issue: domestic abuse and its after-effects. The author gives a warning even before the book begins that there is a "brief" scene that shows domestic abuse but it isn't just one scene and abuse is abuse, regardless of whether it happens in the confines of a bad marriage or outside of it. Was the warning necessary? Not really but it was the author's prerogative but if you're going to warn your readers, you may as well warn them about the fact that the abuse isn't just one "brief" scene. Just saying.
Aside from abuse, the book tells the tale of Holt "Axel" Reid and Isabelle "Izzy" West, former lovers who find themselves thrown together by circumstance after having been distanced by fate (otherwise known as Axel's evil foster mother, June) for too many years. After the unexpected reunion, there's still a heck of a lot of lack of communication between these two. Yeah, I get the whole "it's not my story to tell" that came from their respective friends (it was mentioned often enough by more than one supporting character) BUT hello, it could have saved both Axel and Izzy a lot of heartache and bickering had someone said something early on.
Some of the dialogue felt disjointed and there were parts that made me wonder if the grammar was purposely wrong or not. I felt myself becoming distracted by it all that there were moments I wasn't really into whatever was happening.
This book had potential and there were portions that I really felt the story-telling was strong. It just fell short in more ways than one. "Axel" gets three stars out of five from but I'll definitely keep an eye out for the second book.
