This is my first Harper Sloan novel, but it certainly won't be my last. As I loved Axel and all his alpha gruffness, and Izzy well she grew on me. Don't get me wrong though I did feel for her and all she had suffered. But she did kind of bug me. Yet, less so in the second half of the story. Especially after she and Axel really talked and got themselves sorted out. And it was a really enjoyable, hot, at times emotional and fun story and I'll certainly be reading more of this series and author in the future.
Would happily recommend.

I haven't read anything in a while - a strange occurrence for me - and as I was trying to find something to read last night I knew I wanted something very specific. I wanted a story about a second chance romance. A story about a couple who for whatever reason couldn't be together the first time they tried and were brought together again when they were older [more mature, etc] and this book delivered with flying colors.
I loved reading Axel and Izzy's story and if I am being honest I loved that it hit home hard about the baby. Sometimes you just want to read something that makes you feel like your world is being crushed only for everything to fall in place at the end and that's exactly what Axel's book did.
And to add it to, now I am dying to read about all the other guys. So thank you, Harper Sloan, for making me want to read again.

I read this book years ago but then finally listened to it. Still to this day I love Alex and Izzy. I've got them on my bookshelf for safekeeping. Could the performance by the narrators been better? Sure, but doesn't everyone have one they like more than others, This story has all the feels. You will get upset, you may cry. It will get hot as sin as well.
Another book that I fell head-over-heels in love with!
Axel ‘Holt’ Reid and Izzy ‘Isabelle’ West are just perfectly made for each other.
Isabelle has just escaped a abusive marriage and waiting on her divorce. Though married, she cannot forget the first love of her life, Axel. Their beautiful love comes to an end when Axel moves to the Marines. Izzy has two best friends, Dee ‘Denise’ Roberts and Greg Cage.
To protect Izzy against her deranged, delusional and stalking ex-husband, Greg offers protection of the Corps Security. And much to the surprise ( or not, because I knew this was coming!), guess who comes to take the case ? Its Axel. Of course !
As the story moves on, Axel and Izzy sort out the misunderstandings between them and realize how fate had fucked them. They take down the ex husband together and proceed to get married and have a baby( or the other way round!)
The story is absolutely simple, but what captured me was the intense emotion that seeped through the pages. Each of the character is penned beautifully, and I felt like I lived with them for the last three days.
To my Ax and Izzy-
Happy Parenting and Happy married life ❤️

This kind of book doesn't surprise me anymore. Since the prologue we know what's going to happen, when and why.
A bit of humor (LOVE Sway <3), sex with an alpha male, a bad guy, a naïve girl and a happy ending and tadaaa
Easy and quick read.

Ok I would give it 4.5 stars for its hot alpha male... AXEL!!! Wow the chemistry that izzy and axel have is HOT!! The drama with Brandon was just enough.. Can't wait for the next alpha marine that comes from this series
I feel grateful I made the decision to DNF.
This was beyond painful to read. The writing wasn't great, but on top of that, the plot was stupid. Say it with me, "fuck miscommunication tropes." I told myself if I made it 50% in and it was still bad, then I was allowed to DNF.
I think the writing made every single character annoying. I should've been sympathizing with Izzy, not hating the fact that she acted like a teenager or that they all acted this way. Also, Gage said 'baby girl' every five seconds. Sir, please shut up.
Anyway, I told myself that in 2020 I wouldn't read shitty books that made me hate the reading experience.

Awesome start to the series! I absolutely enjoyed this even though it stressed me the heck out. Axel was totally alpha male and a bit over the top in the beginning and I could not wait for those edges to soften. It was so worth the wait!
Izzy and Axel have a heck of wild ride in their relationship. Separated and brought back together, there is so much tension between these two, it was crazy. I was filled with so much anticipation waiting for them to reconnect. Izzy has been through serious turmoil and is still dealing with drama which created a lot of intense moments. Sometimes I just wanted to smack both Izzy and Axel because they could be frustrating, but honestly, that build of them figuring it all out was part of what had me hooked. There were heated moments, lots of intensity and angst, but a lot of really sweet moments too.
Major ups and downs throughout. Lots of drama. An awesome cast of character were introduced. I'm excited for all the guys and have a million questions about Beck and Dee. I feel like some future stories have been set up with the guys and I am excited for more in the series.
The writing was really good. I enjoyed the crazy build even though it stressed me out. The front half seemed a bit drawn out and the second half flew by. Some things were spot on and other things were glossed over and fast paced. I was pretty hooked with an this-is-so-exciting-to-read feeling happening. I was pulled in by the intensity and these very broken characters. I loved that moment when Izzy and Axel both finally open up and share, and figure out the missing pieces from their past. It was an emotional roller coaster for sure.
Axel was an exciting read that had me hooked. I love the Corps Security world and can’t wait for more!

The whole time I'm reading this, it feels like something is missing, I just can't put my finger on it. Izzy, while my heart broke for her, she drove me absolutley insane! She was such an ostrich for such a large part of this book. Love the hot guys of Corp Security, curious to see the women that take down the rest of the guys.
