There's something about private investigators / Marines / protectors that make them a good centre-epiece for "lady" books. This was a 'good' book but not a great one. They dealt with domestic violence in a satisfactory way, but not in a great way.

Off to read the second book now - Greg's story!

Going to slowly reread this series again and see how much my opinion has changed. REALLY do not like Axel at all.

One of the few five star ratings I've given out lately. I really loved their story! And it felt real and deep.

Well it was an okay read. It wasnt bad. The story was appealing and I could really feel for the characters. I like stories about abuse because i know there is a happy ending somewhere. I liked the beginning and the ending. The story got a bit lost in the middle and that was my biggest issue. Another was there was too much sex and too much swearing. I like dirty words but this was too much. Felt there was no balance. Just an okay reaf for me.

This book took me on a ride. A really crazy, long, emotion-packed ride that left me wanting more. I know Greg's book is next, but man, I can't even tell you how much it was Maddox's. Seriously, that boy is FINE. He's sweet and compassionate and hard and perfect all at once. I freaking love him, please understand that. I've come across a lot of scene stealers in my books these days, and Maddox was it for this book. He stole the whole show and I just kept begging for more interactions with him. God, I am in love with him, and I can't get over it. I want to gush all day. I want to spend my life tucked into his arms. Why isn't he real??

If you call me Holt one more fucking time I'm bending you over my knees, yeah? I am not Holt to you, and you damn well fucking know it.

Okay, onto the main man. Axel. Dear, sweet, Axel. My heart swells for him, too. You'd think his actions and words toward Izzy in the beginning would piss me off, what with his mouth running and trekking on dangerous territory when he didn't know shit. WRONG. I felt for him every step of the way. I understood his anger. How can you not? Their wires, as Maddox explained, were so beyond crossed. I just could not get a handle on this. AND BY GOD, when any man cries it is heart-breaking, but when a huge, hard, alpha male cries??? Well, just knife me in the gut, why don't you? That would be, I think, a bit less painful than what I felt for Axel all the way to the end. Jesus, he was perfect. And he was HOT. Oh my God, some of the hottest scenes I've ever read are in here. Harper knows how to write 'em. Axel did something at the end of the love scenes that grabbed my heart and wouldn't let go. I won't speak it, but I love it when I read about a hero performing that small act. I need more of it. I knew he was perfect before, but that sealed the deal, man. He was entirely lovable in every possible way. I mean, right from the very beginning, I a squealing, giddy mess, waiting for him to make an appearance! He stole my heart before he even really stepped onto the scene.

She was mine.
She is mine.
She will always fucking be mine.

In regards to the actual plot and story.... man, I was hooked right from the start. I was confused, and when I thought I had an idea about what had happened, I was so wrong. I wanted answers, I need them. But man, I loved it. I loved every second of confusion, of heart-ache, of love, and every other possible emotion that consumed me while reading. I laughed, I sobbed, I freaked the fuck out. Jesus, it was incredible. What an incredible ride. As soon as we met all of Greg's boys, all of his brothers--which, seriously, I CAN'T. I don't know what it is, but hearing guys who are close (or actual brothers, even) saying "brother" to each other when they speak... GOD, it gets me every time!! "My bad brother." GOD HELP ME. I loved the relationship between all of the brothers, every single one. They were playful, but serious when necessary, and so freakin' perfect I want to die in a circle of them.

"His words were something along the lines of, 'me Tarzan, taking Jane to tree house where she won't wear clothes and we will play bedroom aerobics for the rest of the days.'"

I loved every relationship here, honestly. The relationships between Dee, Greg, Maddox, Beck, Coop... all of them. I want more. I NEED more. The characters were perfect, the plot was incredible, and I was a blubbering mess on more than one occasion. I didn't expect to read this book in one go. No, I just figured I'd start it and go on leisurely. The book had other plans for me. It gripped me and held me captive until I was finished, emotionally exhausted. I want the rest of the books in the series, right now. There better be a million of them. I'm talking Greg (whose is next), Maddox, Beck, and Coop. I'm not forgetting anyone, right? I hope not. Don't think so. MADDOX HAS TO COME SOON OR SO HELP ME GOD.

"We are the new Axel and Izzy."
"Axel and Izzy, huh? That mean you want to be my girlfriend or some shit?"
"No, I just want to be yours. That's all I've ever wanted."

And with that, I leave you. Please go and read this. Just go and give it a chance. As soon as the action started picking up, when Axel and all of Greg's boys first appeared, I was hooked. Hooked to the end. This was a crazy, emotional ride that had me on the edge of my seat, squealing and sobbing and gasping for breath. What a story. Harper Sloan is officially on my radar.

I waited a long time to start this series. After I read Axel, I found out what all the hype was about! This is book one in the Corps Security Series. I seriously love Harper Sloan to the moon and back for writing this series. It's alpha men at their finest! Each one of them are awesome in their own way and they all will get there own book!

This is Axel and Izzy's story. They were childhood sweethearts until certain happenings in life tore them apart for many years. During that time, Izzy did not have a great life which, in way, led her back to Axel. They have a lot of things to work out with each other, after they get over the initial shock of seeing each other again.

I freaking love Axel! I love how protective he is. I love how hard he is and I love that he still loves Izzy, unconditionally, after all the years they were apart.

This is going to be an awesome series. If you haven't started it yet you need too!

(I loved Locke in this book. Can't wait for his!)

Beautiful

Harper is an amazing author. She's never disappoints. This is a beautiful story. Izzy & Axel have a love that poets dream about. Both have suffered so much and the ending makes it so worth it.

Read this book so long ago that I cannot remember the details to add it more to my shelves, sorry.

emotional tense medium-paced

Again, minor quibbles that were majorly overshadowed by the emotions of the story.
Ultimately, it was a really lovely love story.
Christmas was my favorite part~
