"I will never be a light thing." Beautiful, heartbreaking, a story worth sitting down with.

More than another well written drug memoir, this delves into true crime. There’s a shocking and unresolved twist at the end that makes you reread and want more.

This memoir is about Rose and her sister Sarah's addiction ultimate death of a drug overdose. Most of it is about their relationship and how Rose dealt with everything. It is part true crime in that there was a case that Sarah was kind of involved in. This is a short read so I don't want to give too much away. It's a very emotional book and I cried several times.

I recommend this to those who like memoirs that pull at the heartstrings.

A dysfunctional family, parental abuse, the opioid crisis, the loss of a sister.....

Rose Andersen hasn't had the easiest life. In her memoir, The Heart and Other Monsters she is very candid about her past. Her sister Sarah died of a drug overdose at 24. After years of substance abuse it was not unexpected but the circumstances were strange. This book is the untangling of that mystery. A memoir with some true crime tied in.

A love letter to a lost sister, an expression of grief and a personal exploration of the opiod crisis. Beautiful, heartbreaking, and poignant.

Thank You to the publisher for sending me this arc opinions are my own.

Maybe five stars. I have to sit with it, and it’s hard to sit with a book about losing a sibling to addiction.
