Fun read with lots of twists and turns. Hard to suspend your disbelief that so many people who are so diabolical would know each other, though.

One of the few mystery/thriller novels written by a man I enjoyed. Only because he did an amazing job on all the woman povs

I’m a little surprised about the rating of 4.37 for this book. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I found it to be a little boring and hard to get into. Sure there were a few twists and surprises , but in general, I didn’t find it very interesting and far too long. It was told from multiple points of view and had now/then elements. I think the author was wanting it to eventually be a movie.

How far would you go for twenty one million dollars? Simon and Vicky appear to be a lovely married couple by all accounts. Simon, a respected law professor and Vicky, an advocate for domestic violence victims, are married for almost ten years, but have one little issue that has plagued their marriage from the start. When Simon's father died he left a stipulation in his Will that Simon could only use the twenty one million in it on his spouse once ten years of marriage has gone by, and without a single filing of divorce on either side, or Simon dying.

Not only is Vicky unable to touch the money, but Simon can't even spend a dime on her in any way. There are people assigned to keep track of all spending and Simon must account for each penny and prove none of it was spent on his wife. Messed up, right? Almost ten years to the day Vicky is ready to get her payday, and Simon well, maybe he hasn't been the loving, faithful and doting husband as he may have been appearing all these years. Enter infidelity, schemes, secrets, and the death of a socialite.

I will tell you guys, this book gave me whiplash. Every time I thought I understood what was going on I realized I never truly did. This book was twisty-turny deliciousness and I devoured every chapter once it went full speed ahead towards the middle. As someone who works in the legal field as well I really enjoyed the author's little nuggets of constitutional examination and wisdom. The author is a judge as well in real life, so seeing him seamlessly weave in moments of Fourth Amendment analysis and the criminal justice process was really entertaining, and educational. This is my third book by him (he also co-wrote Invisible and Unsolved with James Patterson) and I knew that everything I liked from those books came from his brilliant mind.

I think it is clear here that I loved this and I am giving this five stars. At over 400 pages this had a bit of a slow start, but once this picked up it was a damn rollercoaster. I will definitely be picking up more books written solely by him.

Thank you so much NetGalley, PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, and David Ellis for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
