The twists in this one challenged my self control to put book down to be a productive member of society. Turns out I am weak in the face of a clever, clever plot. Am I a bad person for being happy with how it all worked out?

Okay, so I picked up Look Closer on a whim, and wow, am I glad I did! This isn’t your typical mystery thriller—it’s a psychological rollercoaster that had me hooked from the first chapter.

The story centers on Simon and Vicky, a seemingly ordinary married couple. Simon is a law professor, and Vicky works as an advocate for domestic violence victims. But as the title suggests, you need to look closer because underneath that chapter lies layer after layer of lies and deceit.

The narrative follows multiple characters with multiple viewpoints. The shifting timelines and somewhat unreliable narrators kept me guessing and very much interested in what happens next.

One of the most impressive aspects of this book is how Ellis masterfully weaves together various plot threads. Just when you think you have a handle on the story, another twist emerges, keeping you guessing until the very end .

However, I did have one major gripe. About 60% into the book, there's a revelation that felt like a bit of a cheat. Without giving anything away, it felt like the author pulled a fast one on the reader, and I couldn't help but feel a tad betrayed .

Despite that, Look Closer is a gripping and cleverly crafted thriller that will keep you turning pages long into the night. If you're a fan of psychological suspense with plenty of twists, this one is definitely worth checking out.
