This book had a lot of detail back story and we learn more about the murders.
We get more of Ricky and Gabriel’s backstory as well and I have to say they both took it pretty well.
Olivia I think is who really got into the visions and the meanings and with her she is helping the boys see things in different ways too.

Now as for the Ricky, Olivia and Gabriel thing, I want her with Gabriel and when he dives after her I felt that thing I have been wanting for them both for so long!

I didn’t expect the ending at all, but I want to believe Ricky is doing the honorable thing. I like that he isn’t making her choose. And even though Gabriel has made a move per say I think it will happen. Or I should say I hope it will.

I liked the narration except for the Gabriel POV it was another female it was odd.

I quit reading this about 2/3 of the way. I had enjoyed the first 3 Cainsville books but this was not keeping my interest and I got fed up with the love triangle.

More engrossing than Deceptions since I finished reading Betrayals in one sitting, stopping only for bathroom breaks and dinner. Betrayals felt like it had smidge of what made the earlier two books great. One thing for sure, Betrayals > Deceptions. As per usual, the supernatural elements
Spoiler(the other fae subtypes, the samhail, the rogue Huntsman, the hound, the books which make them have visions, the elders)
ROCKED and kept me turning the pages.

I was not expecting the ending and I wonder why Ricky came to that decision (in spite of the justification he gave, I don't buy it). His POV(s) were much welcomed and from there we, the readers can see just how close Olivia and Gabriel's friendship-something really is.
SpoilerPoor Ricky, at least they've sexxed it up countless of times in the past three books. Horndogs, the both of them! This is me mildly annoyed by how many times they do it in the books. Luckily hehehe, most are fade-to-black or not THAT graphic to me.

Can I tell you how much I have come to adore reading the chapters from Gabriel's point of view? He is made to be a character with a bad childhood, common in PNR but his' is a character that has been fleshed out. His flaws feel real, I can empathize with him...to see him grow has been a delight. In hindsight, we came back to Cainsville and for that, I am grateful.

I feel like I need to stop reviewing Kelley Armstrong books because I swear all my reviews are the same. I can't help but fall in love with her writing as soon as I read the first line. This book was no different.

I was a little disappointed in the last book because it felt like the plot and characters weren't going anywhere. That was probably because it was the third book in the series and that happens. I was much happier with where this book ended up. I felt like some characters (*cough cough* Gabriel) finally started getting themselves together and making a change in their lives. If there's one thing I can't stand it;s when people (or characters) complain about their lives and do nothing about it. Gabriel finally started stepping up and I was really thankful to see that.

I was also really happy with where Liv's story was going. She's always trying to learn more about what's happening at any given time and I love how smart she is. She doesn't need a guy to help save her but at the same time she's not going ignore help when it's handed to her. I really love that about her. There's no "oh my god how stupid can you be for walking into that creepy cave by yourself" moments. She's smart and uses everything to her advantage and that makes her a character I look up to.

Ricky was also wonderful and perfect but he has been since day one. Nothing has changed there. Except he maybe got more wonderful at the very end. The next book is going to rip my heart apart, I can feel it.

There wasn't anything I didn't love exactly, I just could have used a bit more action plot-wise. There was almost a side plot here that I felt didn't really connect with the story line of the whole series. It was still a great plot mind you, just not as good as it could have been.

I don't care who you are or what you read, but I will always recommend Kelley Armstrong to everyone. I especially recommend it for people who like their stories a little bit more complex because there's a lot of information in this book that makes you question what is even going on. I think it's fun but other people might be bored.

I couldn't have expected anything more for the fourth book in this series. That ending was the perfect set up for what I'm sure will be an epic conclusion.

God, Goodreads really needs to get on implementing half star reviews because I want to give this 3 stars, but I can't bear the thought of giving it anything less than 4 because it's still a great read as always, so we meet in the middle here at 3.5 yet again.

And most of my thoughts for this book boil down to: Get your act together already, Gabriel!

So I will be brief(ish):
1. Again, I personally am not a big fan of the amount of sex in this series or really any series I read, especially since the first book didn't have any, and since it's with the wrong guy. So *insert picture of person tapping their watch here*. And with a large part of this story involving fae sex workers, and even more revolving around Olivia and Ricky's... relationship, let's just say it's not my favourite in the series. But that's just me.
2. I wish more of the action would actually take place in the town of Cainsville, like we get pit stops at the diner and Olivia's apartment, a quick trip here to see Rose, a quick trip there to see Patrick, but I'm not seeing nearly enough of the town itself! Come on, give me more history! More gargoyles! More places to see! More about the elders. About people who actually live in the town that's the namesake of the series. More! The whole plot of this book seemed rather removed from the whole, a side story with not much to really add to the big picture other than the Gabriel/Olivia/Ricky relationship, and I'll admit, the big "Betrayal" was... not gonna lie, a little bit of a letdown, as well as the fact that we never met most characters in this before.

But I still love it. The book still sucked me in to its world, into its lore and its mystery. I tore through it. And I am still hopelessly in love with Gabriel. Like move aside Matilda, if you can't make your choice, I can. Every little scene where he does right by Liv, cares for her, or does something sweet, gives me life. Nothing against Ricky, of course. He's great, he's stable, but I mean, he's just not him.
Spoiler I can't say I wasn't immensely pleased with his decision in the final chapter, though a few chapters before that what he did to Gabriel was a bit of a dick move. And I feel a little bad for them both, but *chanting* Gabriel, Gabriel, Gabriel!
But anyway, as always, the story was well-written, the adventure it took me on was exhilarating, and everything we learn about the fae and the cwn annwn and every bit of mythology in between is just a stunning testament to Kelley Armstrong's abilities. So maybe it's not my favourite book in the series, maybe it has a couple uncomfortable scenes and rough edges, but it's still amazingly well-done.

God, I don't even know how to review this one. Like, the plot was SO DUMB for a lot of it and I just didn't care whatsoever, and I feel like Kelley Armstrong didn't really care all that much either. The plot just felt very lazy and shallow. But then I guess, the plot is not what I'm here for.

BECAUSE OH MY GOD. OLIVIA. GABRIEL. RICKY. I CAN'T. I love them all so much, in any and all constellations, but most of all, I STILL WANT THE POLY SHIP OF MY DREAMS!!!!!! It's the only thing that makes sense.

SpoilerLike honestly, now that Olivia and Gabriel are going to likely give their relationship a go, whatever are they going to do with Ricky throughout the last book if not use him as the third person in that relationship???? There's no other logical way out. (I know, I know, it's going to be Olivia/Gabriel with Ricky as their friend as an endgame, but IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE WHEN POLY IS AN OPTION.)

But yes...
SpoilerAs much as I love Olivia/Ricky, I had soooooo many Olivia/Gabriel feelings in this. HE LOVES HER!!!!!!!!!! He furnished the house for her and made her breakfast and JUMPED AFTER HER and feels when she's in danger and everything is just A LOT.

I kind of loved that Ricky stepped back and was like, you have to give this a shot.

I also loved that Ricky quoted the whole Arawn speech at Gabriel to show him that he wouldn't shoot him. Maybe my favorite moment ever between them.

BUT MOST OF ALL, WHERE IS MY CANON OT3??????

I still want to see this series through to completion because I am still invested, but I will say that the protagonist is my least favourite character and her glacial character development is getting pretty tedious.
