Brancal
Je pense que tout conduit à la mer. La mer qui accueille tous les êtres qui n’ont jamais réussi à naître et ceux qui sont morts pour toujours.

oh this might get 4 stars in the future. kind of sad and depressing but not in a bad way? I loved the writing style and characters and the entire atmosphere.

ignorando il fatto che è ovvio che calligarich non abbia mai incontrato una donna, scrive molto bene e sinceramente ho un debole per queste storie à la dolce vita, grande bellezza

The writing was beautiful and completely wasted on this empty shell of a story. It felt like it was trying to be the italian Great Gatsby but the class commentary felt shallow and redundant. The characters were all extremely unlikeable and somehow also extremely boring, including the main character who was insufferable. The author made non stop references to other classic texts that felt like when modern books namedrop popular TV shows. The perspective was painfully male, the women were horribly written, and the author brushed aside instances of unwanted sexual advances too easily. I liked the descriptions of Rome but even that felt very flat, it was always some bar they went to and some café and some rich person's house, there was nothing unique that could distinguish Rome as special even though to the main character it clearly was. I'm glad to finally be finished.
