Very nearly lost me in the last 60ish pages in fact had I not plundered on and read the last ten pages I probably would have called this series quits.

The first chapters got me interested and then it lost me. There’s ideas there that could’ve been done so much better. The contest ending like it meant nothing was so weird.
UGH. This is a really tricky review to write because I really wanted this to be a 5 star read for me
3.5⭐️ the story keeps you going… pretty quick read… something different with a nice cliff hanger…

Could Have Been Much Better
I liked the main character Mari and the story was promising at the start. I found it was very immature, and the story line could have been much better. I started to lose interest and annoyed with the princes and how everyone spent so much time hiding the secrets. The story was drawn out. If the characters weren’t so childlish and the prince Zion wasn’t so handsy, it could have been okay.

I read this story in between another, a chapter at a time. It’s Princess Games/Bachelorette time!
Mari grew up in the city’s slums. Sometimes the Fire guards would bring food, and she used her small, dirty wiles to get extra food for her deranged mother. Mari was the result of a guard’s rape, so she had to be resourceful. However, after years of avoiding the collection, she is dragged into the lineup of women and selected to attend the competition for a noble husband. We learn why late in the novel.
Her attempts to stay in control during the arranged trials are funny and kept me returning even when I supposedly was finishing another story. While not original, when Mari sneaks off and suddenly runs into one of the twin princes, their momentary snuggling turns her into the princes’ obsession. Both are cursed to take time as a dragon, leaving whoever is human at the time to gain points towards Mari’s favor. And to be honest, one of my favorite themes is two men competing for the woman’s/MC’s hand.
The queen is not amused and orders her to be killed, whereupon Mari races to the dragon and surprises everyone. Death by dragon or death by sword? She chooses the dragon.
Mari
“dragon tamer of the west’ rang in my ears.”
“horrifically, I wasn’t so sure who’d they pick if forced to choose between their mother or me.”
❤️ Romantic fantasy? ❤️
How smexy is this? Well, it’s more comedic than toss-your-panties, but there are a couple of scenes. You are warned.
-------------------
* Single POV
* Menage/Love Triangle
* Almost campy
* Smart FMC
* Her bed excuse (his is too close to the queen’s)
* Possessive dragon
-------------------
No writing faults, not bland. Good, not so great I would reread this. 4 stars.

I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC. I absolutely devoured this book on Saturday! I just couldn't stop reading, if you like Hunger Games meets TOG meets anything with dragons, you'll like this one!
Normally I'm pretty good at predicting story lines, however Raven threw me curve-ball after curve-ball, with twist upon twist. The spicy scenes were hot, and not overly complicated where you have to try and work out where goes where.
Can't wait for the next book in the series.
