To be clear, I read only the story titled "The Story of an Hour." It's very short and doesn't bring much.
God the emotions this short book gave. Ofcourse why do we think we have right on others life just because we stay together was my fav summer of the story

05/29/12 - It's now my favorite short story ever. Says so much in so few words.
12/26/08 - This is my 2nd favorite short story ever. Nothing special about this particular edition though. It has some questions and analysis that are at a pretty low grade level.

A group of provocative, even shocking, stories by New Orleans writer [a:Kate Chopin|5132|Kate Chopin|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1224805370p2/5132.jpg], in which she deliberately reverses the power dynamic between men and women in relationships. It's difficult not to describe this work without seeming chauvinist, but all I can suggest is, take a look, make your own judgements. For my part, I found the stories challenging and rewarding.
I'd only heard of Kate Chopin as an early New Orleans writer, and that seems to come through noticeably in her writing, in the pervasiveness of taking it easy. While I enjoyed her (astonishingly short) story 'The Story of an Hour', I didn't entirely 'get' it; I preferred the other stories in this collection, which were given more room to create atmosphere and setting.
Although the title story packs more punch, it does so at the expense of other aspects, which detracts from her point - if readers cannot imagine the characters, it is much more difficult to empathize with their story, and without an interest in the characters, the moral punch will be reduced proportionally.

Wonderful, in a scant 4 pages, the author sums up a whole millennium of life for women, maybe not all, but let's say most of those who married up to 1970 or so, or so I think. This short story, so immediate and so shocking, reminded me a lot of Saki, whose topics though, were decidedly different.
