The Beast

I love practicaly everything JRW writes... so, its not the writing.... but I felt a little cheated...
when you have so many storylines going on, the whole book just turns into a lead in for the next book.
As touching as Rhage's story was... I knew where it was going, right from the start I knew exactly how it would pan out and that was a little annoying. I kept thinking that this book was too 'pink' for a BDB book. I know, this has to do with my personal liking, I like darker books (Z's being my favourite)...
I loved the BDB moments, I loved Mary's respect scene, I loved Assail's story, the birthing drama....but at the same time, I, as a reader could see the formula of the book, I knew what was a set up for other books, I knew what would happen next.
I was truly hoping that it would have Rhage's hstory, more about his youth and his trouble's with the Beast. Turning the Beast into 'a fluffy puppy' really didn't hit home with me...
I would like to just say something else here, concerning a feeling I got about the general plot and where it may be headed. To me, much of the appeal of these types of books, is the boundaries you set up for the story. The fact that these are secret cultures, fighting secret wars and must stay hidden at all costs. In earlier books we had scenes of Brothers and Lessers stopping to fight because a police car came.... This is just my opinion, but if those boundaries fall, and vampires become known (as in Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series) the whole series collapses for me. I hope this is not where JRW is taking this, it would totally ruin it for me.
This is the first time I'm giving a BDB book a three star raiting, as much as I love her... I feel like she may be getting some bad advice from the people in her head...

How. Cute.

The 14th book in the series, Black Dagger Brotherhood, is a replica of the thirteen that came before it. Since I voluntarily torture myself by continuing, when it comes to criticizing the books’ many faults, I don’t have a leg to stand on. Cheers!

In The Beast, book 14 of JR Ward’s masterpiece series, the Black Dagger Brotherhood, it seems baby fever has hit the mansion.
The ex-chosen Layla and Qhuinn finally become parents while both Mary and Rhage’s “biological clocks” start ticking. But can Rhage control the beast inside him to become daddy dearest? We all know the Warden loves a HEA. Make sure you have a box of tissues close by.

I love when J.R. Ward makes me cry. I live Rhage and Mary and adding Bitty to the BBD family brought me to tears. They deserve the happiest of endings.

Just when you think what more can you bring on to the table, this books just shows it. Its kind of deal bracker for the Brotherhood as a whole, lots of thinhs are being set in motion and i just can't wait to read more of it!!!
