Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh how I love love LOVE the BDB!!!!!!
This felt like a HUGE change of pace to the rest of the series and rather than being less than page turn worthy. ....omg did I love this!!!!
***********SPOILER ALERTS************
With decimating 90% of the lessers within the first chapter it leaves a question with ...."What do we do we do here" kinda thing.
This one goes emotionally and more personally into the brothers lives. Particularly Rhage and Mary, but there's also Layla with her...love? infatuation? with Xcor; and pregnant with twins for couple Qhuinn and Bhlay.
V even begins to question things.
What I loved about this book was the brothers were still themselves when they needed to be - Xcor needed attending to.....Assail seems to have turned tides and strange things over at Naashas residence has him actually working WITH the brothers. A hell of a change from a few books a go. The end results from that.....I foresee 2 more further writing lanes which will be interesting to see!
And nice to see an appearance from Zshadist - I developed a soft spot after reading his book and was right behind him in this one
Watching (well reading!) Rhage deal with the core of his issues. ..and then to watch him and Mary work through it was....and breath of fresh air actually. Other books could have pulled that out for an entire book but Ms Ward did the characters the justice they deserve by the way they sorted it....
And damn....doesn't it make you want a guy like Rhage!!!????
Seeing him with Bitty and the way the little girl begins to slowly open up....you couldn't help but smile...
And I gotta tell you....when his beast came out while Mary and Bitty were there I was slightly worried.....but the way he reacted to Bitty - I literally laughed out loud!!! The visual in my head was awesome! !!
I had such awful storyline running through my head knowing this was called "The Beast" and would be about him. I try not to read synopsis as they kinda give a lot away so to say I was relieved to not have to say goodbye to Rhage....our handsome hunk of Hollywood was perfect.
Luckily as I was behind, I'm straight on to the next......!!!
I have a feeling Layla and Xcor is going to be a main storyline here.....and as usual I can never predict Ms Ward's writing which makes this series sooooo good!!!!!!

It has been quite some time since I immersed myself in the Brotherhood Universe and The Beast proved to be, yet another, fantastic installment to this enthralling seductive series.
Even though the books are full of high action, suspense, and carnal romance - it is still very much character driven. A distinct world filled with singular persons, all claiming an individual voice and backstory.
Ward does not disappoint with reuniting us with Rhage and Mary in order to continue their story. The Beast was funny, heartfelt, and just plain awesome. I have always held a soft spot for Rhage and his Beastie … in a way, this continuation of his story is a splendid “coming of age” for both of them.

Yes, this is what I was wanting from the continuation of this series. Mary and Rhage are a favorite couple for me and I loved seeing their story continue, Biddy was a great addition to the story. Now I just need more Viscious and Jane and I’ll probably die a happy woman. Although I’m still made I have like 8,000 more books until I get to Lassiter, it hardly seems fair.

I love the way this opens with the major fight scene and V telling Rhage in the opening lines that this was the moment he had forseen his death just has you sucking in a breath and being afraid to let it out. Rhage, in a move that's so bullheaded and self-centered you just want to slap him, not only ignores the warning, but charges out ahead of the countdown.
So many great things follow. I especially loved the V and Assail relationship that was set up here, and that continues to develop throughout the book. Those two are so dark and sarcastic that together they really work. And interspersing the action with scenes from what was going on with Mary and Bitty was a fantastic writing choice. Plus, seeing this version of Rhage, the arrogant "F you death" version, is such a great contrast to the Rhage we see slowly mature over the course of the book.
I particularly love the scene with him and Mary the first time he meets Bitty where so many good, more mature qualities come out during that interaction. It's like in Rhage's thousand year lifespan, we're watching him leave young adulthood and those crazy partying college years behind and start thinking like a family man.
And things just get better and better after that, from Assail who in an act of redemption finds a way to finally save himself to some great surprise reveals and connections, some between new characters, some between old. This book is all about redemption and formerly hopeless characters finding the best parts of themselves.

Excellent, as always. I laughed, I cried, I loved it.
More of the same, I could kinda tell where this book was going from the first 100 pages. Of course there were some surprises that I didn't think of, but there's no real EVIL out there right now. Yes, I know the Omega is out there, but they don't really focus on him except for in the beginning. I feel like there is nothing guiding the storyline of the Brothers as a whole anymore, she just focuses on adding to the Brothers personal storylines. I miss when it was about the drama of the whole Brotherhood.
Also the writing was a bit too much for me this time around, I guess it was a little too "cool."
But I love Bitty and am so happy for everyone!! Obviously teared up at some parts regarding that!

I adore Rhage. I would so keep him close. Mary has always done an admiral job of this, but there is a widening gap between them lately. They find that closure here. The story keeps us going, a couple of new characters are introduced, so excited, and we get every spec of emotion that J.R. Ward in known for. I crave it. I think you will too after the reading of this one.
