oh my god this was just. so good. so good. this made me feel so many emotions and i don't think i have loved a bdbh book this much apart from lover awakened.
I will note there were a few plot points that felt a bit... strange? (parts that just came out of nowhere but didn't exactly feel like a twist) and while the overall story was pretty predictable i have to give it a 5 star rating for those EMOTIONS

This book broke my heart into a million pieces and put it back together again about a thousand times and I loved every second of it. Rhage and his beast are one of my favourite parts of this series and seeing him struggle so much pulled at my heart strings. This book made me laugh, made me cry, made me wince and even made me blush, it really had it all. And the way it all played out was just so perfect, I couldn’t have imagined anything more fitting!
Rhage and his Mary have always been my favorite couple throughout the history of the BDB. Tears, laughter, and plenty of the 'WTF Rhage?' moments I've missed seeing in the most recent books of the series. Solid 5 stars.
Audio book review.
Another great installment in the series. Not as captivating as others, but then again, we're 14 books in. This book brings back some of the same character arcs as the most recent books. We get a bit more Wrath and Beth, although they've taken a backseat along with Trez and Iam, who are only mentioned once in the whole book. We get more Assail as he descends into addiction and madness surrounding the forced separation from the woman he loves and the destruction of his drug-selling empire. We also get more of the Lessers, who have kinda taken a step back while they regroup and build up their ranks. During a big battle downtown, we get to see the three major powers (Brotherhood, Bastards, and Lessers) collide, and Score is taken prisoner by the Brotherhood. Layla, of course, is still a prominent character, as her pregnancy is still considered high risk, and we all know she's carrying Quinn's twins. And there are scenes that further our understanding of Vicious and Zadist, but our main focus for this book is Rage and Mary, and how they manage to stay connected and keep the love alive while Rage is slowly spiraling with anxiety and panic attacks that he can't explain.
I, personally, am excited to get more of the original guys we started with, sort of circling back around to their problems and story arcs. It's been such a long and complicated series since book 2 that I've forgotten most of what happened originally. All I knew is that Mary is a therapist who works at Safe Place, and she was brought back to life by the Scribe Virgin, so she's immortal, but can't have any children because of her illness when human. I won't spoil the main arc of their story, obviously, but the conclusion just feels so right. Could totally see it coming a mile off, but it's so stinking perfect. I'm glad these two get their happily ever after (again). Including the Beast! We find that Mary actually can talk to the Beast as a separate entity while Rage is sleeping, so that he's not panicked when he wakes up. She calms him and cares for him, loves him because he's such a huge part of her husband. The bits of the story where he comes out (because of course he would, look at the title) and she has to talk him down are so adorable.
Overall, a great book. No complaints, just not as gripping as some of the other books. Definitely reading on, but was that even a question? Lol.

I HATE that the more this series progresses, the more POVs are added. Just let me read about Rhage and Mary for gods' sakes. It's not like the others aren't going to get their own books at some point anyway.
Will I stop reading this series though?
Probably not. One needs guilty pleasure reads too. *shrugs*

If memory serves me right this is the first book to have me in tears since I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
OMG! J.R. will never cease to AMAZE me with how much she makes me CARE about these characters!!! I always seem to forget how much i miss them and their world, but the minute i pick up a new book, it all comes rushing back! These characters feel like a legit part of my family now, and i just love them all to itty, bitty, bits! That being said, this book was ADORABLE!!! I was sooooo afraid at the end of the last book for what she was going to do to my baby Rhage, but i should've trusted her. This book was adorable, and heartbreaking, and heartwarming, and just, UGH! SO MANY EMOTIONS!!! Also, soooooooo much tension is building and is starting to come to a head that is just going to EXPLODE in the next book, and i am SOOOOO EXCITE for it. I don't care what anyone says, i LOVE these books and i CANNOT wait for the next one!!!
I'm liking these expanses on what exactly happily ever after means.
It had been a long time since I read a BDB book and I don't remember the slang being so thick and almost incomprehensible. I was seriously annoyed! Otherwise, I enjoyed the book. Though it had the emotional delicacy of a brick to the forehead. Of course such books are meant to manipulate our emotions, I just don't like to see it done quite so obviously. All in all, I'll no doubt continue the series as I come across the books, but these latter ones aren't as good as the first ones, in my opinion.
