This is what rom coms are all about… Nick’s mom can still go to hell though.

3.75 stars. Enjoyable read.

Really liked the characters' chemistry and their growth throughout the novel.
The ending felt a little rushed.

The beginnings are so sparkly, so effortless. You can imagine the other person to be whoever you want. In all the gaps of your knowledge about them, you can paint in whatever qualities you like as placeholders. You can paint the other person into a dream impossible for them to live up to.

When I read the blurb I immediately wanted to read this book. Two people that absolutely despise and hate each other but are about to get married? Gold, pure gold. A love story that starts in the middle.

Nicholas doesn’t like bangs? Fantastic. I don’t like Nicholas.
And she went and got bangs. I love this girl.

Naomi and Nickolas play a game of cat and mouse in this book. They both want out of an unhappy relationship before they seal the deal with I do’s. They are both witty, whip-smart and just want to make the other person back down before it’s too late. It was just all honest-to-god good writing and funny reading about how they made the other person tick.

Nicholas has enjoyed a leisurely stretch of uninterrupted time surveying our battlefield while I grapple blindly like a video game character stuck in a glitch. He’s been strolling along, hands clasped behind his back, burying land mines with finesse. He’s going to win this, like he wins everything.

This was a slow-burn in an unconventional way. What really got me was the way they already knew each other, they knew how to make the other person see red and what comeback would get the worst reaction. But this was also true when they were falling in love again. They rediscovered everything they loved about each other, the gestures the other person made out of love, just because, without expecting anything back. It was really interesting to see how an average person can become the most beautiful human being in your eyes just because you love them and you appreciate everything about them.

“I’ve been so concentrated on my own unhappiness that I haven’t noticed his. I’ve been fooling myself by thinking he’s been content all along. How arrogant, to assume he was content with me when I so obviously wasn’t content with him.

Oh this was so so good. A true enemies to lovers romcom, or rather, strangers to lovers to enemies to lovers romcom. I laughed out loud too many times to count and I’ve decided that Naomi is my spirit animal. And Nicholas just holds a piece of my heart. Honestly I’ve just never read anything like this. It was an interesting twist to your average love story and I will definitely read more from this author. If you’re looking to read something out of the ordinary, amusing and exciting, give this a try. I can guarantee you’ll like it.

“It’s how his closeness makes my knees weak, and his skin brushing mine jolts me like a spray of hot sparks. It’s how he knows me better than anyone else, and I never meant for him to. I tried to keep him at a safe distance where he could only see the decent parts of me and it made us both miserable. I inadvertently let him in to see the ugly parts but instead of running away like I’d counted on him to do, he wrapped his arms around all of that ugliness and didn’t let go.

This book left me feeling heavy and disappointed despite it being marketed as a “feel good romance”. The lovers to enemies back to lovers approach did not appeal to me.

A solid entry in the romcom category. I liked the lovers to enemies to lovers and play on war of the roses. Some parts were a bit too long, others not developed enough. I also struggle a bit with tropes that lack basic, healthy adult communication but get that it tends to be a fundamental part of rom com stories. There were parts that made me giggle and smile. Overall, an entertaining read and a good first book by the author.
