I enjoyed this but it didn't particularly stick out to me. It was witty and interesting but I would've preferred more introspection on Lucy's part. The dissections of Edwardian society were quiet interesting though, and I loved certain characters, especially Mrs Honeychurch and the Emersons. I want to watch the film with Jake soon.
Sorry @lydia, it had to be done! We are doomed to be misunderstood in our triumphs as well as our mistakes. That old, old battle of a room with a view is ended.

Amazing, charming, intriguing, hilarious and really really good prose. A lot of moments that made me stop and reread a particular sentence for the clever expressions and descriptions. Loved the characters and you can tell Forster understood people so well in order to write them like this. Would 100% read again and probably very soon.
Despite being set a couple centuries ago, A Room With a View is devastatingly relatable. I’m pretty sure I called a friend last week who was in the same situation as Lucy Honeychurch. The book revolves around Lucy, a young woman growing up in the strict social structure of 20th century England. It’s a classic story about a girl caught in a love triangle: obsessed with one man but involved with another. I got tired of this book about halfway through it. E.M. Forster and I are just not on the same wavelength. His wordy prose and subtle humor wasn’t working for me, and the romance was too obvious to really keep me interested. Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre contain similar themes but with more fleshed out protagonists and more unique situations. The book lost steam abruptly after leaving Europe. The exotic backdrop of Italy made the subpar plot seem more interesting, but once it was brought into the light in England I struggled to care. It is a well done novel and was probably more notable when it first came out, but with a contemporary lens I think it has lost some charm. I wish I could read every classic novel in the year it was published so I could really get the full effect.
