Good world building. SUPER asshole princes. Slow plotline. Same old thing where the unassuming girl turns out to be way more powerful and/or special than anyone ever guessed. Same old thing where girl has two different guys she could end up with and it's a whole big dramatic thing to freaking pick one.

IMO, it’s highly inaccurate to suggest this to anyone wanting to fill that some SJM shaped hole in their lives.
This lacked the emotional depth found in any SJM universe by a lot. The heroine was mostly inactive, and the one time she was—a moment I’d been highly anticipating—the author chose not to show it. We learned what happened through second hand information. Imagine hearing Feyre’s battle against the Attor after the fact, with Feyre having no memory of it, and someone filling her in. That’s how this felt.
Side characters had no real foothold in this other than to show up and fill space until needed for some emotional motive for the heroine at the end. As a reader, I felt nothing about this incident, but would have liked to.
All interactions between the heroine and every character, including the hero/ crown prince, felt super awkward at times. Semi-awkward at others. Just generally uncomfortable.
Lastly, I’m not sure what the GOAL of this book was, but I’m certain it would have made a world of difference had I known. There *was* something Vallha was determined to do but she never actively worked toward it. Not even sure if it was resolved.
