“Shelly.”
“Yes?”
“Look at me.”
“Why?”
“I love how it feels.”

That's what I'm talking about! I absolutely adore Shelly and Beau but I wish there had been more Shelly's POV.

This Winston Brothers book has a focus on the FMCs on mental health. If that triggers you, take caution. There were definitely some hilarious moments, Shelly’s bird had me rolling!  Something that caught my attention was,
“Meet a guest in shoes, family in socks and friends in bare feet.” I reread this a few times, and made me giggle as I meet everyone in bare feet. This book is intertwined with Beard Science, I recommend reading that first even though these can be read as stand alones.

This is such a cute series. I was less invested in Beau (for no specific reason and I do like him), but loved the character development of Shelly. I don't know a ton about OCD (the actual diagnosis from a mental health professional), but how it was portrayed in this book matches what I do know and that made me really happy (not just used as the term to describe cleanliness or being orderly). Some series plot twists in this one too!

Quite possibly my favorite Winston Brothers book yet...and that’s saying a lot.

Trigger warnings: death, cancer, lying, manipulation, cheating, physical abuse

June 2023: Like the book before this in the series, I love this one! The plot takes place at the same time as Beard Science which creates a really interesting element for me. You can see Cletus' perspective of Beau falling in love in the previous book, and in this one, you see Beau's perspective of Cletus falling in love. It just works so well, and creates such a connection between readers and the characters. What I love the most about this book, similar to the one before, is Beau. I cannot decide which of the two is my favorite Winston brother to be honest. Beau is so much more like me; the ultimate people pleaser, he's used to changing himself and adjusting to the desires and needs of others around him to his own detriment. That is until Shelly comes around and doesn't respond at all to his usual charm... at first. I love how she disrupts his monotony, his simple life. She throws a wrench in his behavior in an infuriating yet amazing way. I love the way they both have to break down their walls for each other and how honest they commit to being in their relationship. It's just the sweetest thing of life. I can't say anything about the accuracy of the depiction of OCD, but I do feel like the way therapy is depicted in the story is refreshing and really appreciated. If you have to pick up a book from this series out of order to give it a try, let it be #3 or #4!

This started off well but then when they got together, the story dragged and these two have no chemistry whatsoever.

Penny Reid's romances have a distinct quirky quality - her characters live in a kind of alternate heightened reality that simultaneously includes some very real world issues. Shelly is a perfect example of one of these characters.

Decent. Didn't have the we-can't-be-together-because-of-this-silly-thing plot line, so that's always appreciated.
