I read the first half on a plane and found it a real page turner but lost interest in the second half. I enjoyed the plot denouement but the heroine's peril and escape were just ludicrous and didn't seem to fit any of the previous plot points.
Between 3-4 stars but I’m feeling generous. The writing was a little pedestrian but this book has a cracking storyline and just enough cult stuff sprinkled in to scratch that itch of mine. A great debut suspense/mystery book.
Probably more 3.5 than 3.. a little clumsy, but i found myself coming back to read more when I should have been doing other things. Would recommend as a casual read, on a holiday or something when you don't want anything too demanding on your mental space but you want to enjoy reading it.
Couldn't put it down. Certainly didn't guess the unfolding events!

I listened to this book on audible, and I was drawn in almost from the very beginning. Often when it’s a book on audible, it takes me a little longer to settle into a book. Maybe it is harder to concentrate on all those initial details because I’m listening rather than reading. I really don’t know. It doesn’t matter in this case, though. This book is compelling from the very beginning. I loved it.
What an absolute bore. The premise of the book was compelling and there was a healthy level of intrigue throughout, just enough to keep me reading in fact. But where was the emotion? The analysis of the characters lived experiences? I felt wholly detached from the story and the characters because there was zero insight into how this huge, life changing event impacted the protagonist at all!
Really interesting what happened fiction novel. Sammy Went went missing as a child. Fast forward 20 years and Kim is approached by a man claiming to be her brother - and telling her that she is the missing child from Kentucky.

I could not put this book down! The story of Sammy Went was incredible and so many twists and turns throughout that kept me turning page after page. Amazingly written and the biggest plot twist that I would have never seen coming.
