28 year old photography teacher Kimberly Leamy has a perfectly normal life in Melbourne, Australia. That is until she meets an American accountant who is certain she is not Kim, but actually Sammy Went who vanished from her home in Mason, Kentucky 26 years ago when she was only two years old. Kim struggles to believe that the mother who raised her, and passed away four years ago from cancer, could be a kidnapper. Now with proof that she and Sammy are the same person Kim travels to America to meet family she never knew she had and to solve the mystery of what really happened all those years ago.

This one had been on my TBR list for such a long time and I’m so glad so finally got around to reading it. It was a great psychological suspense thriller and had a great mystery running throughout. This book was definitely dark at times and was really well paced to build the suspense throughout. Told over dual time lines of now and then the book is full of family drama, secrets and even a sinister religious cult - all mix perfectly together to deliver a great debut thriller. Definitely one I recommend for fans of dual time lines, psychological thrillers and Australian fiction.

Much twistier than I had envisioned and more cult-y too. A super engaging story that had me hurrying to finish each sentence. I probably would’ve given it 5 stars if not for the overt references to Gillian Flynn & Stephen King.

characters were pretty one dimensional and not at all developed. a lot of the dialog was kinda cheesy and unnatural. but it held my interest enough and was a very quick and easy read!

Loved this book. Kept me guessing the whole way through and had an unexpected twist. Great mystery thriller!!

I thought I was really going to enjoy this book. The beginning did set the stage for what I hoped would be a story that would keep me on the edge of my seat. The more that Kimberly dug into her past the more secrets that she uncovered. There were many tangled webs.

What suffered for me with this book are the characters. None of them including Kimberly drew mw into the story. Additionally, the emotional connection towards Kimberly was not as strong as I would have liked. Thus; my interest in the overall story was mild at best. I kept reading because I did want to know the truth. The truth was sad but a good ending to the story. At least the ending is a bonus as there is nothing worse than to read a whole book only to end with an unsatisfying ending.
