3.5 stars because I liked it, but the coincidences and the way it all comes together was a bit too contrived to me. Way too "small world" to me, I think.

The first part had me intrigued, but it ultimately got way to convenient/coincidental at the end. To me, it felt a bit more like a Hallmark historical movie—-trite and sentimental. And personally, I didn’t love the handling of WWII. The build up was good, but in the end, it felt like the author needed them to just go through some general tragedy/tearing lovers apart.
I particularly did not like how they made Soline’s father Jewish, and have her only reflect on this a bit, but never on the Holocaust as a whole, especially during the parts in the 80s when the extent of the genocide was much more well known. To me, it felt like just a way to sensationalize the story more without reflecting on the tragedy

Way too sappy for me. The end just completely ruined the book. I do not want to give spoilers but if you are a sucker for a soap opera, this is for you. Totally unrealistic not only in the wrap up but in the reactions people would have if put in this position.
